Assam State BJP slams Congress, Left for misusing Zubeen Garg's name for politics

Assam BJP accuses Congress and Left of misusing Zubeen Garg's name for political gains while launching Nyay Yatra for justice in the artist's untimely demise.

"The Leftists and the Congress have been constantly trying to portray Shiva devotee Zubeen Garg as an atheist through continuous false propaganda - Suranjan Dutta, BJP Spokesperson"

Guwahati, October 23

The Assam State BJP, representing its 65 lakh dedicated karyakartas along with countless admirers of the legendary artist Zubeen Garg across Assam, collectively initiated a Nyay Yatra from Nalbari district on October 22, seeking justice through the court of law over the untimely and unexpected demise of Zubeen Garg.

State BJP Spokesperson Suranjan Dutta said the prime objective of this Nyay Yatra is to ensure justice through judicial proceedings in the wake of the unfortunate passing of Zubeen Garg.

"The party and the government, with the heartfelt cooperation of the people of Assam, are determined to immortalise his artistic legacy, creations, and ideals so that Zubeen Garg's contribution continues to shine like the eternal radiance of the sun," said a press release issued by the State BJP.

The State BJP Spokesperson further alleged that Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Akhil Gogoi, and Gaurav Gogoi are attempting to derail the entire investigative process through false and misleading propaganda.

"Their supporters have been spreading fabricated reports about Zubeen Garg's post-mortem findings on social media, falsely claiming that the accused are being kept in air-conditioned facilities and treated as VIPs an insidious attempt to divert the course of justice. Moreover, during the one-month memorial of Zubeen Garg, leaders from Congress and the Opposition alliance held a discussion under the banner Kanchanjangha, where they irresponsibly claimed that the cause of Zubeen Garg's death was scuba diving. If so, how can Gaurav Gogoi, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Akhil Gogoi, and Ajit Bhuyan now seek justice for his death? This contradiction is both shocking and hypocritical. The Leftists and the Congress have been constantly trying to portray Shiva devotee Zubeen Garg as an atheist through continuous false propaganda," he said.

The State BJP Spokesperson further said that today, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, citing proof and facts such as the tattoo of Lord Mahadev on Zubeen Garg's body and his participation in various traditional Vedic rituals over time, proved that Zubeen Garg is indeed a spiritually minded person.

"For this, the Assam BJP expresses its gratitude to Chief Minister Dr Sarma," he said. Dutta further clarified that the Nyay Yatra initiated by the BJP should not be misunderstood as a question raised against the government but rather as an act of solidarity and cooperation.

He appealed to all opposition parties to set aside their politics of confrontation and extend their support in the pursuit of justice for Zubeen Garg, who resides in the hearts of all Assamese people.

Recalling the grim days of Congress rule in Assam, Dutta highlighted that under their regime, Assam witnessed atrocities and injustices of the worst kind. During the protest for tribal recognition at Beltola, Lakshmi Orang, a leader of the Tea Tribe community, was brutally stripped by miscreants. Pranab Boro, a leader from the Bodo community, immolated himself on the streets of Guwahati in protest over land rights.

"On 15 August 2004, a bomb blast at the Independence Day function in Dhemaji claimed the lives of 13 innocent school children. The serial bomb blasts across Assam on 30 October 2008 killed 81 people and left 447 permanently disabled. The ethnic clashes in the BTAD region in 2008 and 2012 claimed numerous lives and rendered thousands homeless overnight. During the Congress era, government jobs were openly sold for money, depriving countless youths of their rightful opportunities. Congress's politics of minority appeasement and vote-bank indulgence destroyed vast forest lands, encroached upon Satra lands, and endangered Assam's cultural identity," he said.

"Even the strongholds of Kaziranga National Park were not spared from encroachment and neglect under their rule. Hence, the BJP questions how many instances of injustice the Congress ever corrected and how many victims truly received justice under its governance. It is deeply condemnable that the Congress and Left bloc are now politicising the judicial process in the name of Zubeen Garg. At a time when the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, and the people of the state are sincerely striving to ensure justice for the departed artist, the Congress and Left forces are shamelessly engaging in this vile act of political opportunism merely to regain power," the State BJP Spokesperson said.

The Assam State BJP strongly denounces this unfortunate and disgraceful act of turning the people's beloved artist, Zubeen Garg, into a political pawn for electoral gains.

Why are we discussing Zubeen Garg's religious beliefs? He was an artist who touched millions of hearts through his music. Let's focus on getting justice for him rather than proving whether he was spiritual or not. This political mudslinging is disappointing.

As someone who grew up listening to Zubeen da's songs, I just want the truth to come out. All parties should cooperate in the investigation instead of blaming each other. His family deserves closure. 💔

The BJP is right to call out the hypocrisy. First they claim it was scuba diving accident, now they want justice? Make up your mind! Zubeen Garg deserves better than being used as political football.

While I appreciate BJP's initiative, bringing up Congress's past failures seems like deflection. Let the judicial process work independently without political interference from any side. Justice should be blind to party politics.

Zubeen da's music united all of Assam regardless of religion or politics. It's heartbreaking to see his legacy being dragged into political battles. Can't we just let the investigation proceed peacefully? 🎵

The Nyay Yatra is a good initiative. At least someone is taking concrete steps for justice
