Andhra Pradesh: VHP, Bajrang Dal hold protest in Vijayawada against mob lynching of Hindu youth in Bangladesh

VHP & Bajrang Dal hold bike rally in Vijayawada against mob lynching of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh. India summons envoy as tensions rise.

"Who gave freedom to your country? Today you are killing Hindus. - Bajarang Dal's A Shiva Prasad"

Vijayawada, December 24

Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal held a bike rally on Wednesday in Vijayawada against the mob lynching of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh.

The protesters also burnt an effigy of Bangladesh's interim leader, Mohammad Yunus.

Speaking to reporters, Bajarang Dal's A Shiva Prasad said, "Who gave freedom to your country? Today you are killing Hindus. Many soldiers died during the freedom struggle. You are saying that Bangladesh is a secular country. Earlier there was above 40 percent of Hindus in Bangladesh. When natural calamity occurred in the country, India provided food and money to Bangladesh. Entire world is watching them. Today Hindus are facing pathetic situation in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Dipu Chandra Das got promotion in his factory but it was not recognised and was killed."

He further asked for support for the family of the victim, Dipu Chandra Das, from the state and centre.

Earlier, India on Tuesday summoned the Bangladesh High Commissioner, the second time in a week, amid apparent strain in ties over the developments in the neighbouring country.

The summons came amid protests in Bangladesh due to the killing of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi and lynching of Dipu Chandra Das in two separate incidents.

Dipu Das was killed in Bangladesh's Mymensingh district, evoking widespread criticism and again raising questions over the security of minorities in the country.

Bangladesh's Education Adviser CR Abrar visited the family of Dipu Das on behalf of the Interim Government and expressed sympathy while also giving assurance of support.

The Office of the Chief Adviser also expressed its profound sorrow over the killing of Dipu Chandra Das and extended its deepest condolences to his family. "On behalf of the government, Education Adviser Professor C R Abrar visited the bereaved family in Mymensingh on Tuesday to convey the government's sympathy and assurance of support during this difficult time," Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, said in a post on X.

During the visit, the Education Adviser spoke with Rabilal Das, Dipu Chandra Das's father, among others.

The Education Adviser reiterated that the killing was a heinous criminal act with no justification and no place in Bangladeshi society. Allegations, rumours, or differences of belief can never excuse violence, and no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands, he said.

He also reaffirmed the Interim Government's unwavering commitment to the rule of law, assuring the family that the authorities would investigate all alleged offences and ensure justice through due process.

The post said that law enforcement agencies have arrested 12 individuals in connection with the crime. "Investigations are ongoing, and the Interim Government has directed that the case be pursued fully and without exception. Such acts of violence will be met with the full force of the law," the Adviser said.

The post said that the government remains fully committed to ensuring the safety, dignity, and equal protection of all citizens, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or background.

"It calls upon all communities, institutions, and leaders to reject violence, resist attempts to create division or unrest, and uphold restraint, humanity, and respect for the law," the post said, noting that the views were conveyed to the family.

On behalf of the Office of the Chief Adviser, Abrar confirmed that financial and welfare assistance would be provided to the family of Dipu Chandra Das and that the relevant authorities would remain in close contact with them in the coming period.

The Adviser reiterated the Interim Government's resolve to protect all citizens and to ensure that justice is served. Dipu Chandra Das, a 27-year-old youth, was brutally killed in Mymensingh, again triggering international concern over the safety of minorities in Bangladesh. Das was beaten to death by a mob over alleged blasphemy, and his body was subsequently set on fire on December 18.

The incident sparked widespread outrage and condemnation. The Interim Government had condemned the incident earlier. Minority groups in Bangladesh have sought strong action against those guilty of killing Dipu Das.

While the killing is condemnable, burning effigies of foreign leaders during protests doesn't help. It escalates tensions. The article says the Bangladesh government has condemned it, arrested people, and promised support. We should acknowledge that and push for justice through proper channels.

The situation for minorities in our neighborhood is deeply worrying. India has always stood by Bangladesh in times of need. It's time for their establishment to walk the talk on secularism and protect every citizen. Justice for Dipu Das must be swift and visible.

Mob violence anywhere is a failure of law and order. The Bangladeshi government's statement and arrests are a step in the right direction. Hope the investigation is transparent. Our focus should be on supporting the victim's family, both emotionally and materially.

Very tragic. This is not just about one incident. The demographic shift mentioned in the protestor's quote says it all. From 40% to now... where is the security? India must use all its diplomatic weight. Bhai-chara should mean safety for all.

My prayers are with Dipu's family. Such brutality shakes your faith in humanity. The bike rally shows people care. But beyond protests, we need sustained attention on this issue. Let's not forget once the news cycle changes.
