"We want to be a team that consistently scores big runs and achieves the par target for that wicket. - Shubman Gill"

Ahmedabad, March 26

Just days ahead of their first match in Indian Premier League 2026, Gujarat Titans' captain Shubman Gill emphasised the team's ambition to consistently score high runs, depending on the conditions.

He highlighted the goal of winning matches in various conditions and not being reliant on favourable wickets for performance.

"At the end of the day, you have to score more runs than the other team. Whether it's by four runs or 150-200 runs, the goal is to win. We are not chasing the glory of scoring 300-350 in a single match. We want to be a team that consistently scores big runs and achieves the par target for that wicket," Gill said while addressing the media during a pre-season press conference in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

The skipper also highlighted the importance of adaptability, stating that the team aims to perform equally well across venues and conditions.

"We want to win matches in different conditions. We don't want to be a team that performs only on good wickets."

Gill, one of the most promient batter in the tournament, amassed 650 runs last season, 426 runs the year before and 890 runs in 2023.

Gujarat Titans, led by Hardik Pandya, clinched their maiden IPL title in 2022 on their debut season. Ahead of the 2024 season, the leadership baton was passed to Gill.

Love this pragmatic approach from Shubman. In a tournament like IPL, consistency is key over flashy one-off performances. His own batting form will be crucial. That 2023 season with 890 runs was magical! Wishing the Titans all the best for IPL 2026. 🏏

Good to hear, but the squad looks a bit thin on Indian batting firepower after Gill and Sudharsan. Too much reliance on overseas players like Buttler and Phillips. Hope the young Indian talents like Kushagra and Rawat step up. The strategy needs to match the talk.

As a neutral fan, I appreciate this philosophy. Some teams get carried away with power-hitting and collapse on tricky pitches. GT's strength was always smart cricket. Gill leading from the front with this mature outlook is promising for Indian cricket too.

Absolutely correct, beta! Winning by 4 runs is as valuable as winning by 100. This is the Gujarati ethos - smart and consistent business! The team has a good mix of youth and experience. Rashid and Siraj will be key on those "non-good" wickets he mentioned. 🔥

Captaincy looks good on him. He's not getting carried away by the hype. Focus on the "par score" for each wicket is such a technical and intelligent way to look at T20 cricket. Hope the other players buy into this. Excited for the season to start! #AavaDe
