"This will bring together alumni, faculty, distinguished guests, students and well-wishers from across India and abroad for a historic occasion - V-C Sekhar"

New Delhi, April 26

Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan will address students, faculty and alumni at the centenary celebrations of Andhra University in Visakhapatnam on Monday, the first day of his two-day visit to Andhra Pradesh, an official said on Sunday.

Apart from the Vice-President, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, and other dignitaries are expected to attend the celebrations on Monday.

Earlier, addressing the 35th convocation ceremony of the University of Rajasthan in Jaipur on Saturday, Vice-President Radhakrishnan urged youth to become job creators and nation-builders.

He said the university continues to shape generations of thinkers, leaders and change-makers committed to knowledge, integrity and service.

Congratulating the graduating students, he noted that a convocation marks both an end and a beginning, urging them to use education as a tool for societal progress.

He emphasised that the true value of education lies in its application for innovation, ethical conduct and the betterment of society.

Andhra University Vice-Chancellor (V-C) G.P. Raja Sekhar called upon alumni members to share your memories, achievements and goodwill messages that will form part of the Centenary Souvenir.

He asked them to send short video clips of nearly 60 seconds' duration, or half-page write-ups, capturing their cherished memories of and association with Andhra University, to be featured as part of the centenary documentation.

V-C Sekhar said the centenary year will culminate in a Grand Finale -- the grandest celebration in the university's hundred-year history.

"This will bring together alumni, faculty, distinguished guests, students and well-wishers from across India and abroad for a historic occasion that marks the close of one century and the beginning of the next," he noted in a statement.

As part of the centenary year, the university instituted "Vaarotsavam" - the Centenary Celebrations Week, which is being held from April 18 at the Andhra University campus.

"The 'Vaarotsavam' is a standing, open invitation to every alumnus, of every batch, every department and every era, to return to the campus, reconnect with friends and mentors, relive cherished memories and participate in the vibrant life of the University. No formal registration is necessary to feel welcome. Andhra University is, and will always be, your home," the Vice- Chancellor said in an invitation to the alumni.

The university's centenary events began on March 26 with the International Students Cultural Festival at the Andhra University Convention Centre.

As an alumnus, I'm thrilled about this! But honestly, I hope the centenary isn't just about grand events and VIP visits. The real celebration should focus on improving research facilities and faculty support for current students.

Vice President's message about becoming job creators is spot on for today's India. But we also need more industry-academia partnerships to make that happen. Just words won't cut it anymore. #AndhraUniversity 🔥

The 'Vaarotsavam' concept is wonderful—open invitation to all alumni without registration. That's how you build a true community. Kudos to Vice-Chancellor Sekhar for this inclusive approach. Would love to visit my old campus!

Interesting to see Sachin Tendulkar involved—he's a national icon but what's his connection to Andhra University? Either way, it's a smart move to attract media attention. Hope the centenary souvenir captures alumni memories well.

While celebrating 100 years is great, let's not forget the challenges facing Andhra Pradesh's higher education—funding crunches, outdated syllabi, and brain drain. A centenary should spark a renewed commitment to academic excellence.
