In a significant initiative aimed at inspiring and educating the next generation of leaders, the Territorial Army, in collaboration with a drone lab, conducted an engaging lecture-cum-demonstration for young NCC students in Mizoram, officials said on Sunday.

Defence Spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat said that the learning session, organised by the 23 Sector Assam Rifles in Mizoram's Lunglei, provided NCC cadets with a unique opportunity to witness and understand advanced drone technologies employed by security forces in modern operations.

"The live demonstration showcased the capabilities, applications, and strategic importance of unmanned aerial systems in contemporary warfare and surveillance," he added.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Rawat, the cadets displayed immense enthusiasm and curiosity, actively engaging with the presenters and gaining valuable insights into emerging defence technologies.

"To empower the future warriors with cutting-edge drone technology, the interactive nature of the session fostered a deeper appreciation for innovation within the armed forces," he noted.

This initiative marks a proud step in nurturing young minds and equipping them with knowledge of future warfare domains.

Such exposure not only broadens their horizons but also motivates them to contribute meaningfully to the nation's security landscape, the Spokesman said.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, the Assam Rifles conducted a drone awareness and training session for CISF personnel in Agartala, Tripura's state capital.

According to the Spokesperson, with the growing use of drones across civilian and security domains, the programme aimed to familiarise CISF personnel with evolving challenges posed by unmanned aerial systems and equip them with the necessary skills for an effective response.

The drone training session included an in-depth classroom module focused on drone familiarisation.

Experts from Assam Rifles briefed participants on various drone types, their capabilities, and associated security risks.

Special emphasis was placed on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including drone identification, threat assessment, and appropriate countermeasures during potential encounters.

This was followed by a practical training segment, where CISF personnel received hands-on exposure to drone operations.

Participants observed live drone demonstrations and were trained in basic handling and manoeuvring techniques.

Meanwhile, last month, the Assam Rifles carried out an intensive two-day drone exercise in Peren district of Nagaland.

Defence Spokesperson Rawat said the exercise was conducted under the Indian Army's Spear Corps at the Drone Training Node in Jalukie, with a focus on enhancing tactical surveillance and technical handling skills.

Wonderful to see such programs in Mizoram. Integrating youth from all regions, especially border states, into the national security discourse is so important. Hope they do more of these across all NCC units.

As someone who follows tech trends, it's impressive to see the Indian military proactively training on counter-drone measures. The threat from rogue drones is real, and this preparedness is key.

Good step, but I hope this isn't just a one-off show. We need a structured curriculum for NCC cadets on emerging technologies, with regular sessions and maybe even basic building workshops. The potential is huge.

This is how you build a connection between the armed forces and civilian youth. Not just through parades, but through knowledge sharing. It fosters respect and maybe even future recruitment. Well done!
