Tennis: Ben Shelton signs up with Team World for Laver Cup 2026
London, May 7
Ben Shelton will return to the Laver Cup 2026 after confirming his participation for Team World. The American, currently ranked World No. 6, is set for his third appearance at the tournament and joins a growing list of confirmed stars for the competition scheduled to be held at The O2 from September 25 to 27.
Team World has already secured commitments from Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur, while Team Europe will feature Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev.
Shelton has rapidly emerged as one of the ATP Tour's standout performers, earning recognition for his aggressive style and powerful left-handed game. The 23-year-old has enjoyed an impressive 2026 campaign so far, capturing ATP 500 titles in Dallas and Munich and increasing his career tally to five trophies.
The American has also built an impressive record in the Laver Cup, winning six of his eight matches across appearances in Vancouver in 2023 and Berlin in 2024. He was instrumental in Team World's triumph during the 2023 edition, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.
Speaking after confirming his participation, Shelton said the event continued to hold special significance because of the opportunity to compete alongside some of the sport's biggest names.
"It's always an honour to be part of Team World. Getting the chance to spend a week with legends like Andre and Pat, learning from them and competing alongside this group, is something I really value and that you don't get anywhere else. I've got some great memories from the Laver Cup already, and I'm excited to get back out there in London with the guys," Shelton was quoted as saying by ATP.
The 2026 tournament will mark Shelton's first appearance under Team World captain Andre Agassi and vice-captain Patrick Rafter.
Agassi welcomed Shelton's inclusion, praising the youngster's versatility and energy as he said, "Pat and I couldn't be happier that Ben is joining the team. He is a dynamic talent that will help us in singles, doubles, as well as with his infectious energy in the locker room and from the bench."
The Laver Cup returns to London four years after the 2022 edition at The O2, remembered for Roger Federer's emotional farewell appearance alongside long-time rival Rafael Nadal. Tennis greats Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray were also part of Team Europe during that edition.
Team World heads into the 2026 competition with momentum after winning three of the last four Laver Cup titles, including the 2025 crown.

Honestly, I'm more excited to see Alcaraz vs Sinner potential match-up. But Shelton's energy is contagious - reminds me of a young Goran Ivanisevic. That said, Team Europe needs to step up after losing 3 of last 4 editions. Federer's absence is still felt.
Watching Shelton develop has been a treat. From college tennis to top 10 in no time - incredible. His serve is like a rocket 🚀. Laver Cup brings such a unique team spirit to tennis. Wish we had more events like this in Asia!
Team World might have won 3 of last 4, but Team Europe has Alcaraz and Zverev - that's some serious firepower. Shelton's 6-2 record in Laver Cup is impressive though. Can't wait for London! The O2 atmosphere during Federer's farewell was legendary. 🙌
Good to see Agassi as captain - brings so much experience. But I feel Laver Cup is becoming too predictable with Team World dominating. Need more innovation in format or team selection to keep it competitive. Still, Shelton's inclusion makes it worth watching.
Shelton's success story is inspiring - from NCAA champion to ATP star. His aggressive baseline game with that huge serve is tailor-made for big events. And with Rafter as vice-captain, the doubles strategy should be top-notch. Team World looking very strong for 2026! 🎾
