Telangana urges Centre to approve key infrastructure projects
Hyderabad, Oct 5
Telangana's Minister for Roads, Buildings, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, on Monday urged Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to approve key infrastructure for the state.
Telangana minister requested Nitin Gadkari's support for projects aimed at strengthening connectivity between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, alleviating traffic congestion in Hyderabad, improving transport facilities to the state's tourist destinations, and accelerating regional economic development.
Venkat Reddy held a meeting with Gadkari after the inauguration of the two-day 'Chintan Shivir-2026', a national conclave on highway infrastructure at Ekta Nagar in Narmada district of Gujarat.
According to a statement from the Telangana minister's office, the two leaders held extensive discussions on key infrastructure projects for Telangana, pending Central approvals, fund sanctions, and the development of national highways.
To provide a permanent solution to the growing traffic congestion in the eastern part of Hyderabad, the state minister proposed the construction of a double-decker elevated corridor spanning approximately 6 km from LB Nagar to Hayathnagar. It was noted that the Centre has already granted approval for Rs 545 crore to develop the LB Nagar-Malkapur section of NH-65 into a six-lane (6+2) highway, including service roads.
In light of the State government's decision to extend the Miyapur-LB Nagar Metro Rail corridor to Hayathnagar under Phase II, a request was made to include the double-decker elevated corridor in the 2026-27 annual plan and grant approval for it, ensuring coordination with the Metro project.
Minister Venkat Reddy requested approval for five ropeway projects at an estimated cost of Rs 1,230 crore under the Parvatmala scheme to enhance connectivity to tourism and spiritual sites in Telangana.
He explained that these initiatives would not only provide convenience to devotees, tourists, and local commuters but also contribute to the development of an eco-friendly transport system.
The minister requested sanctions for three key ROB/RUB projects under the 'Setu Bandhan' scheme for the 2026-27 financial year.
Venkat Reddy requested Nitin Gadkari to expedite the project to expand the Hyderabad-Vijayawada-Machilipatnam NH-65-which connects the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh-into a six-lane (6+2) highway.
He noted that traffic volume on this highway has currently surpassed 1.20 lakh PCUs (Passenger Car Units) and highlighted the presence of numerous hazardous zones and accident blackspots. He emphasised the urgent need to expand the road to meet growing traffic demands and to enhance road safety.
The minister has requested approval for the construction of an elevated corridor on the Hyderabad-Srisailam NH-765, specifically within the tiger reserve forest area.
An elevated corridor would serve as a solution to the challenges associated with road expansion in the forest region; it would ensure a safe and comfortable journey for devotees travelling to Srisailam while also protecting the ecology of the Nallamala forest area.
Venkat Reddy requested the sanction of funds for 33 road development projects in Telangana state under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme for the 2026-27 financial year.
He stated that the estimated cost for these works, covering a total length of 511.68 km, is Rs 1,227.75 crore. Emphasising that these projects-proposed by MPs and MLAs-are crucial for balanced regional development across the state, he urged Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to review and approve them under the 2026-27 CRIF scheme.
The Telangana minister requested speedy financial and Union Cabinet approval for the northern section of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR).
He stated that the state government is prepared to bear 50 per cent of the land acquisition costs for the northern section of the RRR, which is to be constructed over a distance of 161.518 km along the Sangareddy-Narsapur-Toopran-Gajwel-Jagadevpur-Bhongir-Choutuppal route. Noting that award approvals for over 90 per cent of the land have already been secured and that the NHAI has invited tenders, he urged the immediate granting of financial and Cabinet approvals.
The Centre was also requested to undertake the southern section of the RRR on par with the northern section, thereby completing the full ring around Hyderabad. It was explained that the southern RRR would play a pivotal role in supporting future infrastructure projects such as 'Bharat Future City,' industrial parks, and radial roads.
The minister sought the acceleration of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) process and the advancement of the Hyderabad-Amaravati Greenfield Expressway project, which aims to further strengthen future connectivity between the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
He stated that connecting this expressway to the dry port in Telangana would facilitate freight transport and provide a significant boost to economic activities and industrial development. He also highlighted the possibility of establishing a spur connection to the Bandar Port.
