Telangana: CM Revanth Reddy orders officials to develop Indiramma housing colonies in Hyderabad's core urban region

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday ordered officials to develop Indiramma housing colonies in residential areas in Hyderabad's core urban region zone.
Reviewing the implementation of the Indiramma Urban Housing scheme, the Chief Minister enquired about the availability of government lands and instructed the authorities to identify unused lands owned by various government departments in the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits.
The officials briefed the CM about the details of housing sites identified across several Assembly constituencies. The meeting has decided to utilise the lands owned by the Police, Revenue, and Transport departments for the Indiramma housing scheme. The departments will be given lands as an alternative arrangement in other places.
CM Revanth Reddy noted that the construction of Indiramma houses far from residential areas could lead to difficulties regarding employment and livelihood opportunities for the dwellers. The Chief Minister pointed out that the houses constructed for the poor, which were far away, remained unused. The CM emphasised the need to construct houses near workplaces within residential areas and ensure the poor do not lose their means of livelihood.
The State government has already announced plans to construct Indiramma houses for the poor across several constituencies within the CURE area. Each flat will be built with a total area of approximately 528 square feet and a carpet area of 400 square feet. While the construction cost is approximately ₹11 lakh, the government announced providing a substantial subsidy of ₹5 lakh. The beneficiary is required to pay the remaining ₹6 lakh. The government is bearing the entire cost of the land.
In the first phase, plans are being finalised to construct and deliver 7,680 flats across 17 constituencies. The 'Indiramma' houses will be built in the first phase in the following constituencies: Rajendranagar, Maheshwaram, Serilingampally, Ibrahimpatnam, Malkajgiri, Nampally, Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Karwan, Bahadurpura, Amberpet, Kukatpally, Medchal, Quthbullapur, Sanathnagar, Secunderabad Cantonment, and Malakpet. The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite the process of identifying unused government land in these assembly constituencies.
Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, R&B Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, DGP CV Anand, CM's Principal Secretaries N. Sridhar and V. Seshadri, Revenue Secretary Lokesh Kumar, HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmad, Housing Special Secretary VP Gautham, Hyderabad District Collector Priyanka Ala, and other senior officials participated in this review meeting.

7,680 flats in 17 constituencies is ambitious. But I'm worried about the resettlement of current residents on those "unused" government lands. Hope the government provides proper rehabilitation and doesn't just displace people. The CM's point about building near workplaces is smart though – those far-off colonies never work.
This is a good initiative but ₹6 lakh is still a lot for many poor families. Even with subsidy, they need to arrange that amount. And who will get these flats? There should be transparent lottery system, no political favoritism. Also hope the construction quality matches the cost – ₹11 lakh per flat better be worth it! 😊
As someone working in Hyderabad's real estate, this is a massive project. The decision to use land from Police, Revenue, and Transport departments is practical – those departments have huge unused plots. But the CM should also consider land pooling with private developers near ORR to speed things up. 7,680 flats is a drop in the ocean for Hyderabad's housing needs though.
Indiramma housing was a Congress promise and they're delivering. Good to see the government thinking about livelihood connectivity – those old colonies on the outskirts were a failure because people couldn't commute to work.
