"Speaking in Hindi...want to spread my party's message": TVK MLA-elect Keerthana

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam MLA-elect S Keerthana says speaking Hindi helps spread her party’s message beyond Tamil Nadu, amid debate over language.

"I want to spread my party's representation everywhere, all over India, even in other countries. - S Keerthana"

Chennai, May 7

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam MLA-elect from Sivakasi, S Keerthana, has said that the message of her party "for a change" should reach wider audiences and talking in Hindi helps that purpose.

"I am speaking in Hindi. I want to spread my party's representation everywhere, all over India, even in other countries. That's why I am speaking in Hindi. Everyone should know about my leader. Everyone should know about my party," Keerthana told ANI.

She was asked about opposition to "Hindi imposition" by a few political parties in Tamil Nadu before the assembly polls.

Keerthana also spoke about her electoral success and said everyone should take an interest in politics.

"Politics is something you shouldn't be afraid of. Everyone should get involved in politics. I am just an example; everyone should come and join politics, that's what I want," she said.

Keerthana welcomed Congress joining hands with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form a government in the state. TVK, led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, is 10 MLAs short of a majority in the state assembly.

Congress has five MLAs in the state. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar at the Lok Bhavan on Wednesday as part of efforts of government formation in the state.

TVK performed spectacularly in its debut assembly election, relegating DMK and AIADMK to a distant second and third positions, respectively.

Interesting to see a politician from Tamil Nadu embrace Hindi like that. I get the sentiment about reaching wider audiences, but isn't this a bit insensitive given the long history of language politics in the state? Feels like she's ignoring the local sentiments.

Good for her, but this is a bit naive. Hindi is not the national language—it's one of 22 scheduled languages. Tamil is equally official. Why not speak Tamil and let translators handle the rest? It's about respecting Tamil pride, not about being anti-national.

As someone who grew up in a non-Hindi speaking state, I appreciate the intent but the execution is off. It's one thing to learn Hindi voluntarily, another to use it in an official capacity when your constituents speak Tamil. Hope she speaks Tamil in the assembly at least!

She's just 25 years old and already making bold moves. I admire her confidence! Hindi can definitely help her party's message reach north India. But please don't forget Tamil roots—we need leaders who can balance both. 🇮🇳

Honestly, this is a smart political move. TVK is relatively new and wants national recognition. Using Hindi helps them break the regional tag. But she better not try to impose Hindi on Tamil Nadu—that backlash would be brutal! Let the people choose.
