Southwest monsoon reaches Eastern Rajasthan; Met Dept warns of heavy rainfall across several districts

The Southwest Monsoon finally advanced into the eastern parts of Rajasthan on Thursday, marking its arrival in the state with a delay of seven days compared to the normal onset date.
According to the latest weather update, the Northern Limit of the Monsoon (NLM) is currently passing through Tonk, Jaipur, and Alwar, and conditions remain favourable for further advancement into additional parts of the state over the next two to three days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that on Thursday, the Southwest Monsoon also progressed into additional parts of Gujarat, the remaining areas of Uttar Pradesh, the entire Delhi region, most parts of Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab, besides entering eastern Rajasthan.
As of today, the Northern Limit of the Monsoon extends through 22°N/60°E, 22°N/65°E, Porbandar, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Neemuch, Tonk, Bhiwani, Bathinda and 32.5°N/70°E.
The Meteorological Centre has forecast active monsoon conditions over eastern Rajasthan during the next 24 hours.
Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in parts of Kota, Ajmer, Bharatpur and Jaipur divisions. There is also a strong possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places, particularly in districts under the Kota division.
Over the next one to two days, monsoon activity is expected to remain vigorous across Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota, Udaipur and Ajmer divisions. Most parts of eastern Rajasthan are likely to receive widespread rainfall, with heavy showers at isolated locations and light to moderate rain across several districts.
Residents are advised to remain alert in low-lying areas that may experience waterlogging due to intense rainfall, said R.S. Sharma, director, IMC, Jaipur.
Meanwhile, weather activity is also expected to increase over western Rajasthan.
Parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions may witness thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall during the coming days as the monsoon gradually advances further into the region.

A week late, but better late than never! I'm in Jaipur and we've already had some drizzle. The Met warning about waterlogging in low-lying areas – that's a real concern in places like Jhotwara and Sanganer during heavy rains. Hope the municipal corporation is prepared.
Great news for Rajasthan's farmers! The delay was worrying for crops like bajra and pulses. Now with this active monsoon forecast for Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Kota divisions, we can expect a good yield if the rains are well-distributed. Just hope there aren't hailstorms – those can damage standing crops.
I'm visiting Jaipur on holiday from the US – arrived just as the monsoon hit! The change in weather is dramatic. One moment it's dry and dusty, next it's raining. The locals seem happy. Guess I'll pack an umbrella for my Rajasthan trip! ☔
It's good the monsoon has arrived, but the Met Department's warning about heavy rainfall in low-lying areas is a concern. Urban flooding in Jaipur's old city is always an issue. The drainage system needs urgent improvement. Also, hope the government has a plan to prevent waterlogging on major roads like MI Road and JLN Marg.
Our family in Kota is thrilled – they've been waiting for this rain! The kaali-peeli (yellow-black) autorickshaws will be busy now. Just a humble request to everyone: please drive carefully during heavy rain, and watch out for people crossing on foot. Safety first, yaar! 🙏
