Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Wednesday said he had a "warm, cordial and meaningful" meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a courtesy call in New Delhi, where key developmental priorities of the Himalayan state were discussed.

In a post on X, Tamang said he congratulated the Prime Minister on achieving the milestone of becoming India's longest-serving Head of Government, and expressed appreciation for his leadership.

"At the outset, I extended my heartiest congratulations to the Hon'ble Prime Minister on this remarkable milestone," the Chief Minister said, adding that the interaction provided an opportunity to highlight Sikkim's evolving developmental needs.

According to Tamang, he apprised the Prime Minister of the state's priority areas, including infrastructure expansion, sustainable development, and measures to improve the overall welfare of the people.

Good to see cooperative federalism in action. The North-East has immense potential and needs focused development. Hope the discussions on sustainable development are followed by concrete action and funding. The Golden Jubilee invite is a nice gesture.

While the meeting sounds positive, I hope the focus on "sustainable development" is real. Sikkim is ecologically fragile. We can't have infrastructure expansion at the cost of its pristine environment. The plans need careful ecological assessment.

Reopening the historic Silk Route trade link is a strategic and economic masterstroke. It strengthens our ties with neighbours and brings prosperity to a border state. This is the kind of long-term vision India needs. Well done!

As someone from a Himalayan state, I understand the unique challenges. Reliable connectivity and livelihood options are crucial. Nathu La reopening in 2026 is something to really look forward to. Hope the benefits reach the common people directly.

The report reads like a diplomatic press release. It would be more reassuring to see specific, time-bound commitments on the "key developmental priorities" discussed. The proof, as always, will be in the implementation and actual ground results.
