The biographical drama 'Michael' inspired by the life of pop legend Michael Jackson, reached movie buffs in April this year. Now, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has demanded a biopic on the life of veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty through his latest social media post.

Sanjay is of the opinion that Mithun Chakraborty's story also deserves a biopic, just like Michael Jackson. Stressing on the cinematic appeal of Mithun Chakraborty's biopic, the director pointed out that his journey, which started from a humble background and made him a massive name in Indian cinema, deserves its own screen adaptation.

Taking to his official X (Formerly known as Twitter) handle, the 'Kaante' maker wrote, "Just like MICHAEL, we have a star whose story demands to be told. Struggle. Sacrifice. Superstardom. A kid from Calcutta who had nothing but hunger and rhythm. Mithun Chakraborty. Mithun Da - your biopic is long overdue (sic)."

Talking about Mithun Chakraborty's inspiring journey, he graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, in 1974.

He made his acting debut with Mrinal Sen's "Mrigayaa" in 1976. His performance garnered a lot of praise, along with a National Film Award for 'Best Actor'.

Mithun Chakraborty reached new heights of fame with the 1982 release "Disco Dancer". Along with becoming a major success at the box office, it also ended up becoming a triumph in the Soviet Union.

Some of his other praiseworthy projects include 'Agneepath' (1990), 'Dance Dance' (1987), 'Swami Vivekananda' (1998), 'Pyar Ka Devta' (1991), 'Swarg Yahan Narak Yahan' (1991), 'Dil Aashna Hai' (1992), 'Ghar Jamai '(1992), 'Dalaal' (1993), 'Aadmi '(1993), and 'Phool Aur Angaar' (1993), to name just a few.

Mithun Chakraborty was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian honour by the Government of India in 2024. He was further honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2022.

While I agree Mithun da has an inspiring story, I hope they don't make it all about the disco era. His work in parallel cinema like Mrigayaa and Swami Vivekananda deserves equal spotlight. Also, the Dadasaheb Phalke and Padma Bhushan recognition came quite late, but better late than never.

Yaar imagine the scene - a boy from Calcutta, no connections, just raw talent and determination. FTII mein padha, National Award liya, then Disco Dancer happened and bam! He became a global phenomenon. Soviet Union mein toh unka craze aisa tha ki log unke posters pe puja karte the! Sanjay Gupta, please make this happen. 🇮🇳

I love the idea but let's be honest - who will play Mithun Da? That's the real question. You need someone who can match his energy, his dance moves, and that unique screen presence. Maybe a newcomer with serious acting chops? Also, the Disco Dancer era soundtrack needs to be recreated authentically. 🎶

Mithun Chakraborty is not just a star, he's an institution. From his National Award-winning debut to becoming a Bollywood superstar, from his dance revolution to his spiritual side - there's so much depth to explore. I just hope the makers focus more on his struggle and substance rather than just making it a flashy commercial film.
