Moscow, May 4

Russian air defences on Monday foiled an attempt of two Moscow-bound drones, the city's Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said, as quoted by Tass.

"The defense ministry's air defense forces repelled an attack of two Moscow-bound drones," he wrote on Max. "First responders are working at the crash site," as per Tass.

Earlier, Sobyanin reported that a drone had crashed into a residential building in west Moscow. No casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, in Yerevan, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer.

"You have set a strong example for other countries regarding the shadow fleet. And I think the Russian economy is feeling it, especially this year. We are also grateful for all your training missions for our warriors," the President noted.

In an X post, Zelenskyy said the first day of meetings in Armenia centred on coordination with European partners ahead of Monday's summit.

"There are three key objectives," he said.

"First: we are doing everything possible to bring a dignified end to the war closer," he said, adding that Ukraine was seeking stronger diplomatic efforts and sustained pressure on Russia.

"Russia must end this war. I thank everyone who stands with Ukraine!" he added.

Zelenskyy also highlighted efforts to implement a EUR 90 billion European support package for Ukraine and preparations for the upcoming winter season.

"Third: strengthening Ukraine's air defense, energy support for Ukraine, and cooperation with partners in the energy sector," he said.

"We are already actively preparing for the next heating season and diversifying the relevant support," he added.

Ahead of the summit, Zelenskyy also held meetings with leaders from Norway, Finland, and the Czech Republic as Ukraine seeks to consolidate European backing amid the continuing war with Russia.

European leaders arrived in Armenia on Sunday for the 8th summit of the European Political Community (EPC).

I know India has a balancing act with Russia and the West, but Zelenskyy's call for stronger diplomacy and pressure on Moscow seems reasonable. At some point, Russia needs to end this war. The world is watching.

Acknowledging India's long-standing ties with Russia, but innocent civilians getting caught in drone strikes is wrong. Both sides need to de-escalate. The EU support package of EUR 90 billion is massive—will it actually change anything on the ground? 🤔

It's interesting to see Ukraine's diplomatic push in Armenia at the EPC summit. European leaders meeting there shows how the war has reshaped alliances. India could play a bigger role in mediating, considering we talk to both sides.

Respectful criticism: While I understand Ukraine's need for support, the continued focus on military aid from the West might be prolonging the war. India's approach of dialogue and non-escalation has worked for decades. Just my thoughts. 😕

The fact that Russian air defences are being tested so close to Moscow is concerning. No casualties is a relief, but this could easily escalate. Zelenskyy's emphasis on air defence and energy support makes sense—winter is coming for Ukraine.
