Rose Leslie joins Russell Crowe in 'The Last Druid'
Los Angeles, May 16
'Game of Thrones' star Rose Leslie has been roped in for a key role in action-drama 'The Last Druid'.
Andreas Pietschmann (Nuremberg), and Daniel Zovatto (Don't Breathe) have also come on board for the project, which already stars Oscar winner Russell Crowe.
The movie will tell the story of a Roman Emperor who discovers a secluded Druid stronghold in the mountains of Caledonia. A peaceful Celtic elder (Crowe) must take up arms to protect his family and people from annihilation, as per Deadline.
William Eubank (Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin) is directing from a script by Eubank, Phil Gawthorne (Modern Life is Rubbish) and Carlyle Eubank (Muzzle)
The film is being produced by Adrian Guerra (Buried), Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Longlegs), Fred Berger (La La Land) and Ben Pugh (The Courier), and executive-produced by Nuria Valls, Xavier Parache, AJ Bourscheid, Brandon Millan, Sam Wasson, George Hsieh and Stuart Ford.
As Deadline previously revealed, Stuart Ford's AGC has pre-sold the film in multiple international markets, including to Amazon for a handful of territories. The company will continue dealmaking on the film at this week's Cannes market.

Rose Leslie is really leveling up her post-Game of Thrones career. Russell Crowe as a Celtic elder sounds promising - he always brings gravitas to historical roles. The director William Eubank is an interesting choice given his horror background, but let's see how he handles action-drama.
Another Hollywood historical drama? 🙄 Why do they always focus on European stories? India has such rich history - the Chola empire, Mauryan dynasty, so many warrior queens. But I guess Romans and Celts sell better internationally. Hopefully Rose Leslie's role is substantial, not just a prop.
The production team is impressive - La La Land's Fred Berger involved, plus AGC handling distribution. Amazon picking it up for multiple territories shows confidence. As an Indian viewer, I'm curious if they'll get the historical accuracy right or if it'll be another Gladiator-style spectacle with creative liberties.
I really hope this isn't just another 'white savior' or 'noble savage' narrative. The premise sounds familiar - peaceful tribe vs. invading empire. But with Russell Crowe's acting caliber, it could be powerful. Also, Rose Leslie in period settings always works! 🏹
The Celtic angle is interesting - reminds me of how we in India feel about the British Raj. 'A peaceful elder must take up arms to protect his people' - that hits home for many Indians. Hopefully they do justice to the emotional weight of such a story. Looking forward to the cinematography of the Scottish highlands!
