Prime Video Cancels 'The Runarounds' After One Season, Band Plays On

Prime Video has decided not to renew the YA series 'The Runarounds' for a second season. The show's female lead, Lilah Pate, has already moved on to a series regular role in the Paramount+ spinoff 'Frisco King'. However, the real-life band featured in the show, comprised of the actor-musicians, will continue touring through June. The series was created by Jonas Pate and executive produced by the team behind Netflix's 'Outer Banks'.

Los Angeles, April 4

'The Runarounds' will not return for a new season.

Prime Video has opted not to renew the YA series, Deadline reported.

As per the portal, the show was quietly cancelled a few months ago. Its female lead, Lilah Pate, has since secured a series regular role in another project, Frisco King, a spinoff of Tulsa King created by Taylor Sheridan for Paramount+.

The Runarounds, the series is ending, but the eponymous rock band at the centre of it will carry on. The group, comprised of show stars and real-life musicians William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zende Murdock, and Jesse Golliher, is on tour through the end of June.

"While the TV series may have come to a close, as a band we're here to stay," the quintet wrote on the group's Instagram.

"We want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who helped in creating the first season of the show, from our cast and crew to everyone behind the who believed in this and brought it to life. And most of all, to the incre Supporters that have found their way to our music through this show and this into something even bigger than we could have imagined...This is merely the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one," the band added.

Created by Jonas Pate, co-creator of series Outer Banks, and executive produced by all three Outer Banks co-creators, Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke, The Runarounds was inspired by the real band of the same name formed in 2021 to appear on the hit Netflix action-adventure YA series.

My daughter loved this show and is really upset. She discovered the band's music through it. It's a shame when platforms cancel shows so quickly without giving them a proper chance to find an audience, especially outside the US.

Prime Video India should focus on renewing their good Indian originals instead. Why waste budget on average YA shows from the West when we have such talented creators here? Bring back more seasons of shows like Mirzapur and The Family Man!

Respectfully, I think the cancellation makes business sense. The article says it was quietly cancelled months ago, meaning the viewership numbers probably weren't there. It's a crowded market. Good that the lead actress has already moved to another project.

The band concept was interesting, but the execution was just okay. Felt very formulaic. As an Indian viewer, I prefer stories with more depth and cultural context. Maybe if they had incorporated some diverse international elements it would have stood out more.

Honestly, I didn't even know this show existed! Prime Video's algorithm never recommended it to me. Their promotion for non-Indian shows in India is very poor sometimes. How are we supposed to watch something if we don't know it's there?
