New Delhi, April 3

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation, which operates the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail between Delhi and Meerut, unveiled the corridor's largest EV charging hub at the Anand Vihar station on Friday.

The move, aimed at promoting clean, green transportation in Delhi-NCR, is expected to provide significant relief to electric vehicle users.

The newly established charging station features 10 high-voltage fast-charging units with a combined capacity of 480 kW. A key highlight of this facility is its ability to charge 10 electric vehicles simultaneously.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, these chargers can charge four-wheeled vehicles to approximately 80 per cent in just 30 minutes.

Dedicated charging points have been installed here for heavy commercial electric vehicles.

To make the charging experience even more convenient, the "Electrify" mobile application is being utilised. Through this app, vehicle owners can easily register, book slots online, and monitor their vehicle's charging status in real-time.

Digital payment options are also available within the app, rendering the entire process completely smart and transparent.

The move by NCRTC coincides with the Delhi government's efforts to ramp up installation of EV charging hubs across the city as it seeks to replace the existing bus fleet with electric vehicles. The DTC recently floated tenders for the supply and installation of EV chargers at three big bus depots - Kashmiri Gate, Sarai Kale Khan, and Anand Vihar.

With the launch of the facility at Anand Vihar Station, EV charging services are now available at a total of eight Namo Bharat stations, including Sahibabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Muradnagar, Modinagar South, Modinagar North, and Meerut South.

Both fast and standard charging infrastructure have been developed at these stations. This initiative is expected to benefit commuters who travel to Namo Bharat stations in their personal electric vehicles.

The NCRTC initiative enables commuters to charge their vehicles on the go while also making a significant contribution to national goals for pollution control and sustainable development.

The corporation plans to extend similar facilities to other stations in the near future, thereby further promoting clean-energy-based transportation across the region.

Great initiative, but the real test will be maintenance and availability. So many public chargers in Delhi are out of order. Hope NCRTC has a solid plan for upkeep. Also, 30 mins for 80% is good, but what's the cost per unit? Transparency in pricing is key.

Finally! Infrastructure is catching up with the EV push. The app-based booking is a smart move to avoid queues. If they can replicate this at all metro and railway stations across NCR, range anxiety will become a thing of the past. Kudos to the team.

As someone who uses the Namo Bharat to commute to Meerut, this is very encouraging. It makes the switch to an electric car much more practical. Combining a rapid rail journey with a vehicle charge is efficient use of time. Hope they add more amenities like a waiting lounge.

Good news for Delhi's air quality. Every step towards electric public transport and supporting infrastructure is a step away from that toxic smog. The focus on commercial vehicles is especially important. Let's hope this inspires other states.

The app integration and digital payment are the way to go. No more fumbling for cash or cards. My only request: please ensure the 'Electrify' app is user-friendly and doesn't crash like some other government apps. First impression matters for adoption.
