Leicester, April 22

Former Premier League champions Leicester City have suffered a dramatic fall from grace after being relegated to League One, ten years after their historic English Premier League title-winning campaign.

The development comes after a 2-2 home draw against Hull City on Tuesday that confirmed Leicester City's relegation to the League.

Relegated from the Premier League to the EFL Championship last season, the Foxes have now become only the fifth club to suffer consecutive relegations down to the third tier.

Gary Rowett's side briefly had dreams of a great escape as quick-fire goals from Jordan James and Luke Thomas overturned Liam Millar's opener, but Oli McBurnie's strike midway through the second half left Leicester City seven points from safety with just two games to go.

"The bigger picture is you don't get relegated over three or four games, you get relegated over a season," Rowett said after the game as quoted by ESPN. "We have to learn. I think the club have to accept this is the horrible part of the journey of a football club."

"This club won the Premier League not too many moons ago," Rowett added. "That was an incredible high at the time for the fans, for everyone associated with the club.

"I think everyone saw that as an amazing achievement. I think we can be equally as disappointed with how poor this moment is."

That fairytale Premier League title win, along with their FA Cup 2021 Final triumph, transformed Leicester City into a worldwide symbol of underdog success and belief.

However, the club now finds itself confronting a starkly different reality, as it looks to rebuild from one of the lowest points in its recent history.

I moved to Leicester from Bangalore in 2018 and fell in love with the club. The atmosphere at the King Power was electric. This relegation feels like a personal loss. But the fans here are resilient—they'll rebuild. The club needs stability and smart leadership now, not quick fixes.

Honestly, this was coming. After winning the Premier League, the club got too complacent. They sold key players like Maguire and Fofana for huge money but didn't reinvest wisely. The owners have to take some blame. But knowing Leicester, they'll come back stronger. 🦊

Football in England is ruthless. You can go from champions to League One in just a decade. Reminds me of how quickly things can change in sports—just like how India went from No.1 Test team to struggling overseas. The drop hurts, but it's the journey that matters. Learn and come back.

That 2015-16 season was unreal. We had watch parties in our college hostel in Hyderabad, everyone cheering for Leicester. Ranieri was a genius. Now seeing them in League One is like seeing a fallen hero. But this is the beauty of football—it teaches you humility. Vardy's still a legend though. 🏆

As a cricket-loving Indian who follows football casually, this story is wild. From 5000-1 odds champions to League One in 10 years? The Premier League is no joke. Leicester's fall shows that without proper scouting and youth development, any club can slide.
