Premier League: Casemiro signs off as Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest 3-2

Manchester, May 17

Manchester United produced a thrilling attacking display to edge past Nottingham Forest 3-2 in a high-intensity English Premier League encounter, as both sides traded goals in an entertaining contest at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.

Manchester United struck early through Luke Shaw in the 5th minute to take the lead before Nottingham Forest responded in the second half. Morato restored parity in the 53rd minute, but United quickly regained control as Matheus Cunha found the net in the 55th minute to make it 2-1.

Forest once again fought back, with Morgan Gibbs-White scoring in the 78th minute to level the match at 2-2. However, Bryan Mbeumo delivered the decisive blow in the 76th minute earlier in the sequence, ensuring Manchester United held on for a narrow 3-2 victory in a pulsating contest.

The result underlined United's attacking depth and resilience as they managed to withstand repeated pressure from Forest while securing all three points in a closely contested fixture.

Brazilian legend Casemiro, who was signed by Manchester United at the age of 30, played his final match in the Club's Jersey.

During his spell in England, Casemiro contributed in several decisive moments, including scoring in the League Cup final victory over Newcastle United and lifting the FA Cup against rivals Manchester City, while also remaining a consistent presence during a challenging transitional phase for the club.

In his final appearances for United, the Brazilian midfielder registered his most prolific league campaign, scoring nine Premier League goals in a single season, surpassing his previous best tally.

Man Utd midfielder Casemiro said as quoted by Premier League, "I start with thank you very much to everyone, the players, the staff, but thank you everyone, but the best thing in this club is you, fans, you - thank you."

With this result, Manchester United remain third in the Premier League standings with 68 points from 37 matches, strengthening their position in the race for a strong finish to the season. Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, are placed 16th with 37 points from 43 games, still working to distance themselves from the lower half of the table as the campaign nears its conclusion.

Great win, but the defense looked shaky again. With 2-3 defensive errors per match, how will they compete for the title next season? Casemiro's presence will be missed big time.

As a long-time United fan from Mumbai, watching Casemiro's final match felt bittersweet. He gave us some magic moments - that League Cup final goal was special. Jai ho Casemiro! 🇧🇷🔴

Thrilling match, yes, but we need to address the midfield gap after Casemiro leaves. He was the only experienced head there. I hope Ten Hag has a plan because relying on youth alone won't work in the PL.

3rd place is decent but not great for a club like United. At least we saw some attacking flair today - Shaw's early goal was a treat! And Casemiro deserved that ovation. Respect for the legend! 🙏

I'm glad Casemiro's spell ended with a win, even if it wasn't his best season overall. His goal tally this year was surprising - 9 PL goals from midfield is no joke. True professional on and off the pitch.
