It's heartening to see the Minister mention her Tamil songs. Many forget she sang beautiful melodies for South Indian films too. "Jiya Jale" from Dil Se is a masterpiece, but her older Tamil work is pure gold. A true pan-Indian artist.

While the condolences are appreciated, I wish our leaders would celebrate our artists more when they are alive. She received the Padma Vibhushan late. We need to honour our cultural icons better, not just in obituaries.

Her versatility was unmatched! She could sing a classical-based song and then a peppy disco number with equal ease. A legend who worked with every major music director from O.P. Nayyar to A.R. Rahman. An era has truly ended. 😢

92 is a good age, but it still hurts. She was singing until recently! What a life, what a career. The Guinness World Record holder. We will never see another like her. Om Shanti.
