PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has been notified to attend the upcoming ICC Board meeting in Ahmedabad. However, he will attend virtually due to tense relations between India and Pakistan. The meetings, including CEC and board sessions, will discuss the World Test Championship's future structure. Naqvi has forwarded the invitation to PM Shehbaz Sharif for a decision on travel.

New Delhi, May 16

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the interior minister of the country, has been notified to attend the upcoming International Cricket Council Board meeting, like all board members, scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad later this month, Geo TV reported.

However, Mohsin Naqvi will not be physically present at the apex cricket body meeting and will instead attend virtually.

The apex cricket body is scheduled to hold a series of meetings, including the Chief Executives Committee (CEC) and Board meetings, to resume discussions on the future structure and direction of the World Test Championship (WTC).

As per Geo TV, the CEC meeting will be held virtually on May 21, while the in-person Board meeting is scheduled to be held on May 30 and 31 in Ahmedabad.

However, the tense relationship between the governments of the two countries, as well as their cricket boards, cast doubts over his participation.

According to Geo TV, the Pakistan Cricket Board chief had forwarded the invitation to Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif, who will decide whether to travel to India to attend the meetings.

It is worth noting that the upcoming meetings, part of the International Cricket Council's quarterly agenda, were originally scheduled for March-April in Doha but were postponed due to regional tensions and conflicts.

The meetings were originally supposed to take place from March 25 to 27, including ICC Board directors, Chief Executives and Committee members, along with the senior leadership of world cricket's governing body.

Ahmedabad hosting ICC meetings is great for Indian cricket! But let's be real - Pakistan sending their interior minister in person would be a diplomatic headache. Virtual attendance is the sensible middle ground. 🤔

The fact that they had to postpone from Doha due to 'regional tensions' says a lot. Cricket boards in South Asia need to stop letting politics dictate scheduling. The WTC desperately needs clearer rules - too many loopholes right now.

Shehbaz Sharif deciding whether to travel? That's a big call. Personally, I think Pakistan should send a representative - it's about cricket, not politics. But I understand why they're cautious given the history. Virtual participation is better than no participation. 🏏

Another ICC meeting, another round of Pakistan not coming. This is getting predictable. Meanwhile, bilateral series between us remain suspended. Cricket fans on both sides lose. Hope the virtual attendance at least leads to some meaningful decisions on WTC format.

As someone who follows world cricket, it's frustrating to see bilateral ties between India and Pakistan remain frozen. The ICC meeting in Ahmedabad is a chance to normalize things, even if virtually. The WTC needs major reform - the points system is confusing.
