Amit Shah Lauds NSG as "Zero-Error" Force, Launches National IED Data System

Union Home Minister Amit Shah virtually launched India's first National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) at the NSG garrison in Manesar. He praised the National Security Guard as a world-class, "zero-error" force that has evolved over four decades to counter global terror threats. The NIDMS is a secure digital platform designed to systematically collect and share data on Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) among all security agencies. Officials state the system will enhance investigations, forensic analysis, and inter-agency coordination to form a next-generation shield against terrorism.

NSG is a world-class, zero-error force: Amit Shah

Home Minister Amit Shah launches India's first National IED Data Management System (NIDMS), calling the NSG a world-class, "zero-error" force.

"NSG is the country's reliable zero-error force. - Amit Shah"

New Delhi, January 9

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday lauded the National Security Guard and said that the NSG is a world-class, "zero-error" force.

He said this while virtually launching India's first National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) at the NSG garrison in Manesar, marking a significant step towards strengthening the country's counter-IED and internal security architecture.

"NSG is the country's reliable zero-error force. NSG was formed in 1984, and since then till today whether there has been any incident or not, NSG has assessed terror incidents throughout the world and prepared itself for any kind of threat. Terror incidents, anti-plane hijacking, disposing of bombs and sharing the data with every agency. NSG officials have received several awards. NSG jawans have received three Ashok Chakras, two Kirti Chakras, three Shaurya Chakras, 10 Police Padaks, 44 Sena Padaks. In the last 4 decades, NSG has evolved according to changing circumstances," Shah said.

Developed by the NSG, the NIDMS is a secure national-level digital platform aimed at enabling the systematic collection, collation and dissemination of data related to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The event was attended by the Union Home Secretary, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the Director General of NSG, the Director Generals of Central Armed Police Forces, and the Director Generals of Police of various states.

Developed by the NSG, NIDMS is a secure, national-level digital platform aimed at enabling the systematic collection, collation, and dissemination of data related to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

"NIDMS will prove to be extremely important in the coming days for the investigation of all types of terrorist incidents occurring in the country and for the analysis of their various aspects. Further, NIDMS will become the next-generation security shield against terrorism," Shah said in his address.

He said the platform will play a crucial role in supporting post-blast investigations and enhancing coordination among various security and law enforcement agencies across the country.

"The system has been developed as a unified repository of IED-related information, enabling State Police forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and other central agencies to access, analyse and share crucial data," Shah said.

This unified, data-driven approach is expected to help investigators identify patterns, track trends, and draw actionable insights from past incidents, thereby improving preparedness and response to IED threats.

At the event, NSG Director General Brighu Srinivasan said that over the past 11 months, the NSG worked in close coordination with other concerned agencies to develop the National IED Data Management System, describing it as a unique system in India.

According to officials, NIDMS will also facilitate better interagency cooperation by standardising data formats and investigative inputs, reducing duplication of effort and ensuring that vital information is available to all stakeholders involved in counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations.

The platform is expected to strengthen forensic analysis, training modules and operational planning related to bomb disposal and blast investigations. IEDs have been a major security challenge in several parts of the country, often used by terrorist and insurgent groups to target security forces and civilians.

By leveraging technology and data analytics, NIDMS aims to enhance national capacity to prevent such attacks and respond more effectively when incidents occur.

The inauguration of NIDMS underscores the government's emphasis on advanced digital solutions to bolster internal security. Officials said the platform would evolve over time, incorporating new datasets and analytical tools to address emerging security challenges and further strengthen India's counter-IED ecosystem.

While I appreciate the government's focus on security tech, calling any force "zero-error" sets an impossible standard. Our forces are human and brave, but this kind of rhetoric can create unrealistic public expectations. The NIDMS system itself sounds promising though.

Good step forward. Data sharing between agencies has been a weak link for too long. Hope this NIDMS is implemented effectively on the ground and isn't just another software that gathers dust. Jai Hind!

As someone who follows global security trends, a centralized IED database is a best practice. Glad India is adopting it. The key will be training personnel across all states to use it properly. Kudos to the team that developed it in 11 months.

Our Black Cats are among the best in the world, no doubt. This digital shield is essential in today's times. But we must also ensure our police at thana level get basic equipment and training. Security is a chain, every link must be strong.

Heartfelt salute to all NSG personnel and their families. 🫡 The data system is important, but let's not forget the human intelligence and bravery that ultimately saves lives. May they always be safe.
