Noida Police on alert ahead of Muharram; officials conduct flag march, crack down on public drinking
Noida, June 23
The Gautam Buddha Nagar Police has stepped up security measures to ensure the peaceful and safe observance of the upcoming Muharram festival on June 26. Acting on the directions of Police Commissioner Lakshmi Singh, senior police officers conducted foot patrols across various police station areas in the district to review security arrangements and issue necessary instructions to personnel on the ground.
Under the supervision of DCP (Noida) Saad Miya Khan, ADCP (Noida) Manisha Singh, accompanied by ACP-3 (Noida) Rakesh Pratap Singh and a police contingent, carried out a foot patrol in the Sector-49 police station area. During the patrol, officers physically inspected the proposed Muharram procession routes and reviewed the security arrangements put in place for the occasion.
While assessing the preparations along the procession route, the officers directed police personnel to remain vigilant and ensure strict monitoring of all sensitive locations. Intensive checking of suspicious individuals and vehicles was also carried out during the exercise.
The officials issued clear instructions to maintain seamless security and traffic management during the festival period. They also emphasised the need for strict action against traffic rule violators to prevent congestion and ensure public safety. Additionally, PCR and PRV vehicles were directed to remain continuously mobile in the area to maintain law and order and respond promptly to any emergency situation.
Meanwhile, a special drive was launched against individuals consuming alcohol in public places under the directions of Police Commissioner Lakshmi Singh. Under the supervision of DCP Saad Miya Khan and ADCP Manisha Singh, police teams from the Phase-1 and Sector-58 police stations conducted a joint operation on June 22.
During the campaign, action was taken against 102 individuals under Section 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for drinking in public places and creating public nuisance. Police officials stated that the drive against such activities would continue in the coming days to ensure public order.
Security arrangements have also been intensified in the Central Noida region. Under the supervision of the DCP and ADCP (Central Noida), ACP-1 Diksha Singh conducted a foot patrol with police personnel in the Phase-2 police station area to assess preparedness and strengthen security measures.
She instructed officers to install barricades for checking suspicious vehicles, ensure smooth traffic flow, and take strict action against motorists violating traffic regulations.
Police officials said that maintaining peace, harmony, and public safety during the festive season remains their top priority. Continuous patrolling, vehicle checks, and surveillance have been intensified across all police station areas. The police have also appealed to residents to cooperate with authorities and immediately report any suspicious activity.

Good initiative but why only during Muharram? Public drinking and nuisance happen throughout the year in Noida. The police should maintain this vigilance round the clock, not just during festivals. Otherwise it feels like a temporary show of force rather than genuine commitment to law and order.
Finally some good policing! As someone living in Sector 49, I can tell you the procession route needed serious security upgrades. The foot patrol by DCP Khan and team is reassuring. Muharram processions should be peaceful and this shows the administration cares about all communities. 👏
A necessary exercise no doubt, but I wonder about the focus on 'suspicious individuals'. During festive times, this can sometimes lead to profiling of certain communities. The police should ensure their checks are professional and unbiased. Also, 102 people caught drinking in public is a lot - maybe Noida needs more permanent solutions like designated drinking areas or stricter enforcement of existing laws beyond just festival times.
As a Muslim resident of Noida, I appreciate these efforts. Muharram is a solemn occasion and we want to observe it peacefully. The police coordination with local community leaders during these flag marches is crucial. However, I hope the heightened security doesn't cause unnecessary inconvenience to regular commuters. Traffic management during the actual procession will be key.
Good to see police taking proactive measures! But let's be honest - this is the same police that struggles with everyday law and order issues like chain snatching and road rage. If they can deploy so many resources for Muharram, why can't they maintain this
