NITs to play pivotal role in realising PM Modi's Viksit Bharat: Manipur CM

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday asserted that premier institutions such as the National Institute of Technology would play a crucial role in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat, stressing that they are instrumental in nurturing skilled human resources, fostering innovation and driving the country's overall development.
The Chief Minister attended the 13th Convocation of NIT Manipur at the City Convention Centre, Imphal. Addressing the graduating students, he congratulated them on completing their academic journey and wished them success in their future endeavours.
Khemchand Singh said NIT Manipur has a vital role to play in the development of both the state and the nation.
He reaffirmed the state government's commitment to establishing a permanent campus for NIT Manipur, stating that the government is actively working towards this objective.
He acknowledged the support of MLA Rameshwar Singh in taking forward this vision, adding that discussions would continue with stakeholders to facilitate land for the permanent campus at the earliest.
Highlighting the importance of technical education in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, he said graduates from disciplines such as Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering would play a significant role in nation‑building.
Describing NIT Manipur as one of the emerging premier technical institutions in the Northeastern region, the Chief Minister urged the graduating students to strive for excellence, become future administrators, innovators and leaders, and dedicate their knowledge and skills towards the progress of Viksit Bharat and Viksit Manipur.
In his address, Chairperson of the NIT Board of Governors Bajrang Lal Bagra congratulated the graduating students and encouraged them to uphold the values of integrity, innovation and service.
He emphasised that education should be guided by ethics and compassion, and urged the graduates to contribute meaningfully towards nation‑building and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
During the convocation, the Chief Minister, along with the Chairperson of the Board of Governors and the Director, presented gold medals and awards to meritorious students in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements.
Among those present were Prof. D.V.L.N. Somayajulu, Director, NIT Manipur; Prof. Khumukcham Tomba Singh, Registrar; members of the Board of Governors and Academic Senate; deans, faculty members, officers and staff; graduating students; parents and guests.

Good initiative, but let's be realistic. For years, we've heard promises about permanent campuses and new institutes in the Northeast. The ground reality is often different — delayed land acquisition, poor infrastructure, and lack of industry connectivity. Unless the state government fast-tracks the land allocation and the central government releases timely funds, this vision may remain on paper. I hope I'm wrong.
