Assam Guv completes Census 2027 self‑enumeration
Guwahati, Aug 4
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday completed his self‑enumeration for Census 2027 through the online Self Enumeration Portal and appealed to the people of the state to actively participate in the nationwide population count, describing it as a crucial exercise for effective governance and development planning.
The Governor completed the process at Lok Bhavan in the presence of Director‑cum‑Chief Principal Census Officer Biswajit Pegu and other officials. Calling the digital self‑enumeration "simple, secure, transparent and user‑friendly," Acharya said the online facility enables citizens to fulfil their national responsibility conveniently while contributing to the creation of an accurate and reliable national database.
He said the Census serves as the foundation for evidence‑based policymaking, effective governance and equitable delivery of public services across the country.
"The Census forms the basis for planning and implementation of welfare schemes, balanced allocation of resources and informed development policies. Accurate data is essential for ensuring inclusive and sustainable development," the Governor said.
Appealing to all eligible residents of Assam, Acharya urged them to complete self‑enumeration for themselves and their family members through the online portal by August 16.
He also requested people to extend full cooperation to enumerators during the house‑to‑house enumeration scheduled between August 17 and September 15 by providing accurate and complete information.
The Governor emphasised that active public participation would help ensure a comprehensive and error‑free Census, strengthening development planning at both the state and national levels.
He encouraged citizens to motivate family members, neighbours, friends and colleagues to participate, saying collective efforts would contribute to building a robust database for future policymaking.
Officials said the self‑enumeration facility has been introduced to make the Census process more accessible and efficient by allowing citizens to submit household details online before the commencement of physical enumeration.
Director‑cum‑Chief Principal Census Officer Biswajit Pegu and senior officials of the Census organisation were present during the Governor's self‑enumeration at Lok Bhavan.

This is good, but I hope the portal is accessible in rural areas too. Many villages in Assam still have poor internet connectivity. The government should ensure offline options are equally smooth for those who can't go online.
Self-enumeration sounds efficient. Back in the US, we do something similar with the census. It's good to see India modernizing this process. Accurate data is indeed the backbone of good governance.
Respect to the Governor for doing this personally 🙏 But I wish more awareness campaigns were running in local languages. Many of our elders in Assam are not comfortable with English or Hindi online forms. Need more ground-level outreach.
Nice to see the state leadership taking this seriously. But let's be honest—census data is only as good as the people's participation. I hope everyone fills in accurate details and doesn't skip anyone in the family. Let's do our bit for the nation! 🇮🇳
Good initiative, but I'm a bit skeptical about data security. With all the recent talk about data breaches, I hope the government has strong safeguards in place to protect our personal information. Trust is key here.
Digital India in action! This is the kind of modernization we need. But please, let's make sure the portal doesn't crash on the last day. Also, the August 16 deadline is close
