Guwahati, Aug 4

Northeast Frontier Railway launched a Digital Travel Assistance Kiosk Network at Guwahati Railway Station, marking a major step towards enhancing passenger convenience through digital innovation and providing commuters with quick, seamless, and technology‑driven access to travel‑related information and services.

NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said on Tuesday that the initiative, branded as 'GoLukBuk', marks the first‑of‑its‑kind project in NFR's jurisdiction and has been introduced under the New Innovative Non‑Fare Revenue Ideas Scheme (NINFRIS).

The Digital Travel Assistance Kiosk Network was inaugurated by NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, in the presence of Niraj Sahay, Principal Chief Commercial Manager, Northeast Frontier Railway, and other senior officials.

Sharma said that as part of this initiative, strategically located digital kiosks have been installed at Guwahati Railway Station, with additional kiosks also planned at Kamakhya Railway Station, ensuring easy accessibility for passengers seeking travel assistance and digital booking services.

He explained that 'GoLukBuk' is an integrated digital platform enabling passengers to conveniently compare and book a wide range of travel‑related services through interactive kiosks. These include hotel accommodation, cab and car rental services, food and beverage delivery, sleeping pod bookings, meeting pod reservations, and other travel assistance services from a single digital interface.

The platform is designed to offer passengers a seamless, quick, and user‑friendly booking experience while reducing the need to access multiple applications or service providers.

According to the NFR CPRO, the kiosks also feature high‑resolution digital display screens and LED hologram fan technology, creating a modern Digital Out‑of‑Home (DOOH) advertising platform that offers businesses an opportunity to connect with thousands of railway passengers every day.

Additional services, including Quick Commerce, are planned to be integrated in the near future to further expand the range of passenger amenities.

The project has been implemented under the NINFRIS scheme with an initial licence period of one year, extendable based on satisfactory performance, Sharma pointed out. It also contributes to generating sustainable non‑fare revenue while improving the overall passenger experience through technology‑driven services.

The NFR official said that the launch of GoLukBuk reflects Northeast Frontier Railway's commitment to enhancing passenger services through digital innovation. By offering a seamless and integrated travel assistance platform, the initiative aims to improve passenger convenience and set a benchmark for the adoption of similar technology‑driven services at railway stations across the country.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), headquartered at Maligaon near Guwahati, operates across the Northeastern states as well as in seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of North Bihar.

As a traveler from the US who visits India often, this is a great initiative. The whole Northeast region is so beautiful but infrastructure has lagged behind. This digital kiosk concept is actually more convenient than what we have in many US stations. Nice to see Indian Railways innovating!

This is really good news for passengers like us who often struggle to find reliable booking options at stations. The "one stop" solution for hotels, cabs, and even sleeping pods is exactly what we need. But I hope they keep the digital advertising screens from being too loud or flashy. Sometimes these things create unnecessary chaos at stations.

Good initiative for sure, but let's be honest — the real challenge in the Northeast is connectivity and accessibility. Digital kiosks are great, but many elderly passengers and those from rural areas may not be comfortable with these touchscreens. Hope they also have staff assistance available for those who need help.

The LED hologram fan technology sounds interesting! I used to live in Guwahati and the railway station was always so crowded. This kind of digital integration is definitely the way forward. It's great seeing Indian Railway stations competing with international standards now.

As someone who frequently commutes from Guwahati to other parts of Assam, this digital kiosk will make trips much easier. But I'm concerned about the advertisement part — stations are already too cluttered with marketing boards. I hope they keep the kiosk area clean and the ads don't compromise passenger space. Otherwise, good move by NFR. 🤞
