NCB refines joint strategies against drug trafficking at MP, Assam quarterly meets
Bhopal/Guwahati, July 31 The Second Quarter State-Level Joint Coordination Committee Meetings of 2026 for Madhya Pradesh and Assam discussed strategies to further strengthen coordinated action against drug trafficking and intelligence sharing, an official said on Friday.
The JCC meeting for Madhya Pradesh was convened in Bhopal and for Assam in Guwahati on Thursday, said an official statement.
The discussions focused on enhancing joint interrogations, financial investigations, coordinated enforcement operations, and cartel dismantling, reaffirming the commitment of all agencies towards a Drug-Free India.
In Bhopal, the JCC meeting was jointly chaired by NCB DDG (Western Region) and ADG, ANTF, Madhya Pradesh, with participation from NIA, SIB, IT, Customs, CBN, RPF, State Prosecution Department, Food and Drug Administration's Office and State Excise, said the statement.
Officials from different enforcement agencies firmed up plans to implement the Vision Document on Narcotics Control, address emerging drug trafficking trends in Madhya Pradesh, monitor 50 identified NDPS cases for early disposal, expedite PIT-NDPS proposals, strengthen financial investigations, and dismantle drug trafficking networks through enhanced inter-agency coordination.
Significant seizures and cases presented by various agencies were also reviewed, with emphasis on clandestine lab busts, intelligence-led joint operations, and joint interrogations, said the statement.
At the Second Quarter State-Level JCC Meeting for Assam, convened in Guwahati on Thursday, the officials discussed strategies to strengthen coordinated action against drug trafficking further.
The meeting was chaired by R. Sudhakar, Deputy Director General (NER), NCB, with participation from ANTF, Customs, CGST, Income Tax, DGGI, SIB, NIA, ED, DRI, Drug Controller, Assam Rifles, BSF, ITBP and District Superintendents of Police, said the statement.
The deliberations focused on strengthening Financial Investigations (FI) as an integral part of NDPS investigations, implementation of intelligence-led enforcement, emerging trafficking trends in Assam, inter-agency coordination, and dismantling the financial infrastructure of drug trafficking syndicates through a whole-of-government approach.
Some of the significant cases reviewed at the meeting included the seizure of 80,000 Yaba tablets in Sribhumi District (three accused arrested) and 669.734 kg of ganja concealed in 111 cargo parcels at LGBI Airport, Guwahati (five accused arrested), said the statement.
A presentation was also given to highlight evolving trafficking patterns, logistics-based delivery mechanisms, handheld baggage screening technology for railway enforcement, and strengthening of the Assam Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) on the NCB model, it said.

The "Drug-Free India" vision sounds great in press releases, but I hope they also focus on rehabilitation of addicts, not just catching peddlers. Dismantling cartels is crucial, but prevention and de-addiction need equal attention.
80,000 Yaba tablets in Sribhumi! That's a massive haul. These tablets often come from across the border and seep into villages, ruining young lives. The Assam Rifles and BSF coordination here is so critical. Hope the intelligence sharing becomes more real-time.
Financial investigations are what really hurt these syndicates. Just arresting a few carriers won't stop it - need to go after the money trails. Kudos to the agencies for making that a priority in both meetings. The cartel dismantling part can't happen without it.
I have mixed feelings. While I appreciate these coordinated meetings, the inter-agency rivalry in India is real - too many turf wars over credit for small seizures while bigger consignments slip through. Let's see if these meetings actually translate into actionable on-ground results. 🙏
It's good to see them including railway enforcement - the logistics-based delivery of drugs is a real concern. I take the train regularly and never see any random checks for these things. Hopefully the handheld baggage screening tech gets implemented soon.
