Bhopal, June 5

At least three people were killed, and 15 others injured after two private buses collided head-on near the Sehatganj toll plaza in Madhya Pradesh's Raisen district on Friday, police said.

The accident occurred on the Bhopal-Raisen Road, near the Umravganj police station. The collision involved buses belonging to Shakti Bus Service and Kalpana Travels.

Police identified the deceased as Nitesh Vyas (28) of Panda Tekapar village in Sultanganj, Makhan Singh Lodhi (29) of Pachipura in Begamganj, and Dipesh Ahirwar (19) of Sultanganj. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.

According to police, the impact of the collision was severe, leaving several passengers with serious injuries to the head, face, and limbs. Ten ambulances were deployed to transport the injured to hospitals.

Critically injured passengers were referred to Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal, while others were admitted to the District Hospital in Raisen and nearby medical facilities.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed grief over the incident and announced financial assistance for the families of those killed.

He wrote on X that the accident was "deeply tragic" and said instructions had been issued to provide free medical treatment to the injured.

He also directed the Minister of State, Narendra Shivaji Patel, to reach the accident site and oversee relief measures. Yadav added that directives had been issued to provide financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased, and prayed for peace for the departed souls and a speedy recovery for the injured.

Raisen Collector Arun Kumar Vishwakarma and Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Gupta reached the spot soon after the accident and monitored rescue operations.

SP Gupta said initial reports had indicated a higher death toll, but verification confirmed three deaths and 15 injuries. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.

Police are examining CCTV footage from the toll plaza and recording statements of drivers, conductors, and passengers. Officials said all possible causes, including overspeeding and mechanical failure, are being investigated.

The district administration said the families of the deceased have been informed, while treatment and assistance are being provided to the injured.

So sad for the families. Dipesh was only 19 years old 🌹 Praying for the injured at Hamidia Hospital. Why do these private buses always drive recklessly? The government should install speed governors in all public transport.

Condolences to the victims. But Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia in 2024? That's hardly enough for funeral costs and immediate expenses. The CM should consider raising it to at least Rs 10-15 lakh. Our MP roads also need better dividers and reflector signs.

Just terrible 😔. I travel to Bhopal every month and this stretch near Sehatganj is scary - no proper lighting, and buses fly past. Hope this tragedy leads to better enforcement and road safety audits. Free treatment for injured is the least we expect.

Deeply tragic. Really appreciate CM Yadav's quick response with Rs 4 lakh assistance and reaching the site through his minister. But we need long-term solutions - better bus maintenance checks, driver fatigue management, and road infrastructure improvements. Every life lost is one too many.

Sad news for Madhya Pradesh 💔. Three families destroyed in seconds. Hope the CCTV footage reveals the exact cause. Private bus companies often cut corners on safety. The investigation should also look at whether drivers were overworked or under pressure to reach on time.
