"Making every possible effort to fix environment": Delhi CM Rekha Gupta on pollution

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that air pollution in the national capital is not a problem confined to a couple of months, but a year-round challenge that demands sustained and continuous efforts.
Addressing the government's ongoing clean air initiatives, the Chief Minister said the administration is working on multiple levels to improve Delhi's environment and address pollution at its source.
"Pollution is not just a challenge for two months; it is a task that needs to be addressed throughout the year. Our government is making every possible effort to improve Delhi's environment and fix the pollution problem," Delhi CM Gupta said.
She also noted that the government had sought innovative solutions to tackle air pollution and, in partnership with IIT Delhi, shortlisted three of the most promising projects for implementation in the city.
"People came up with new measures to eliminate pollution. In collaboration with IIT Delhi, we selected the best three new projects, and now we are implementing them in Delhi," she added.
Chief Minister said these steps are part of a broader, science-based approach aimed at reducing pollution levels in the capital through technological interventions, improved infrastructure, and long-term environmental planning.
Delhi continues to face severe air quality issues, particularly during the winter season.
In response, authorities have intensified anti-pollution measures such as dust suppression drives, road infrastructure upgrades, and pilot projects including cloud seeding and mist-based systems under the city's wider clean air strategy.
Meanwhile on April 3, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled an aggressive and wide-ranging strategy to combat air pollution in the capital, signalling a decisive shift from intent to enforcement.
Announcing the rollout of the Air Pollution Mitigation Action Plan 2026, she said the initiative builds on the government's 'historic' Green Budget for 2026-27 and aims to translate clean air goals into measurable outcomes, according to a press release issued by the CMO.
The plan, prepared under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, lays out a structured roadmap for sustainable urban development, with a strong emphasis on accountability, technology and time-bound execution.
A high-level review meeting regarding the effective control of pollution was held at the 'Mukhyamantri Janseva Sadan', presided over by the Chief Minister.

Finally someone talking about holistic approach! I work near Janseva Sadan and have seen dust suppression vans regularly now. Small steps but they matter. Only concern is these plans often become paper tigers. Let's hope 2026 is different. 😊
