Maha govt clears five mega projects worth Rs 89,000 crore
Mumbai, May 26
In a major push to industrial investment, job creation, and the development of a modern industrial ecosystem in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has approved special incentives for five mega and ultra-mega projects worth approximately Rs 89,731 crore.
The decision was taken during a Cabinet Subcommittee on the Industry Department meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
CM Fadnavis stated that these projects are expected to generate around 20,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing a massive boost to industrial development across various regions of the state, including Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Nashik.
Under the state's industrial policy's Package Scheme of Incentives, various concessions and incentives are provided to businesses.
To attract large-scale investments, boost employment, and build a robust industrial ecosystem by establishing new industries, a Cabinet Subcommittee was set up under the chairmanship of CM Fadnavis to decide on special concessions for mega and ultra-mega projects, the release said.
During the meeting, CM Fadnavis approved special incentives for five projects in high-tech and future-oriented industrial sectors.
These include coal gasification and downstream derivatives, solar cell modules, ingot and wafer panels, electrical steel, PET tyre cord, and synthetic graphite anode material.
These projects are expected to significantly expand Maharashtra's high-tech manufacturing footprint.
Beyond driving investment and generating direct employment, these mega projects will foster local business activity, ancillary industries, and supply chains.
They will also stimulate technical innovation and research and development (R&D), opening new avenues for MSMEs.
Furthermore, the initiative will create training and skill development opportunities for local youth, enhancing their employability in emerging technology sectors, the release added.

Rs 89,000 crore is a massive figure, but I hope these projects don't come at the cost of our environment. Coal gasification sounds worrying—we need clean energy, not more fossil fuel dependence. Also, let's ensure local youth get those 20,000 jobs, not just outside contractors.
Finally some big investment news! Nashik and Vidarbha have huge potential. The focus on solar cells and electrical steel is smart—these are the industries of the future. But 89k crore is a lot of tax money being given as incentives. Hope the state government has strong accountability measures in place.
As someone from Marathwada, this gives me hope. We've been neglected for too long. Pet tyre cord and synthetic graphite—these are niche industries that can create a whole supply chain of MSMEs around them. Need to see concrete timelines now. Ab wait karke dekhna hai. 🤞
Impressive numbers, but where's the plan for skill development? These high-tech sectors need specialized training. Our ITIs and polytechnics need to collaborate with these industries from day one. Otherwise 'local youth' will just be doing unskilled work while engineers from other states take the good jobs.
Happy to see Maharashtra leading in high-tech manufacturing again. The ingot and wafer panel project is especially important for India's solar ambitions. Let's just hope land acquisition is done fairly and farmers get proper compensation. Development should not destroy livelihoods.
