"Lead architect of global terrorism is DEAD": House Republicans on reported death of Iran's Khamenei

US House Republicans declare the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei after reported Israeli strike, as regional conflict escalates.

"The lead architect of global terrorism is DEAD, ending his decades of terrorist reign. - House Republicans"

Washington DC, March 1

The Republican leadership in the United States House of Representatives on Saturday said that "the lead architect of global terrorism is DEAD" after reports emerged that Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in an airstrike on Tehran.

In a post on X, House Republicans wrote, "The lead architect of global terrorism is DEAD, ending his decades of terrorist reign. The world is safer with Ali Khamenei's death."

Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Tehran, senior Israeli officials were informed on Saturday evening, according to The Jerusalem Post.

Senior Israeli officials were also informed that the body of Iran's Supreme Leader was found under the rubble left by the air strike, the report said.

Former US Vice President Kamala Harris accused President Donald Trump of pushing the United States into an unwanted war, saying she opposes any regime-change conflict in Iran and warning that American troops are being placed in danger for what she described as "Trump's war of choice."

"Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want. Let me be clear: I am opposed to a regime-change war in Iran, and our troops are being put in harm's way for the sake of Trump's war of choice," she said in a post on X.

On Saturday, the United States and Israel carried out joint missile attacks on Iran, with large explosions reported in Tehran and other major cities, signalling a sharp escalation that risks expanding tensions into a broader regional conflict in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Iran has retaliated, targeting Israel and US assets in multiple Gulf states. Multiple explosions have been heard in Iran's capital, Tehran, while blasts have also been reported in several other locations across the country.

The Republican statement is needlessly inflammatory. Celebrating any death, even of an adversary, sets a terrible precedent. The focus should be on securing peace and protecting innocent civilians in the region, not on victory laps. Hoping our government navigates this with wisdom.

A significant geopolitical earthquake. Iran will retaliate fiercely. This directly impacts us - oil prices will skyrocket, and our projects in Chabahar port face huge uncertainty. Modi government needs to act fast to secure our interests. 🇮🇳

Kamala Harris makes a valid point about it being a "war of choice." The American people, and indeed people around the world, don't want another prolonged conflict. The focus should be on diplomacy, not regime change. The human cost is always too high.

The world might be safer without him, but the method is questionable. This isn't justice; it's an act of war that will have massive consequences. India must stay strictly neutral and call for an immediate ceasefire. Our priority is the safety of Indians in the Gulf.

Feeling very anxious. My brother works in Dubai. These tit-for-tat strikes could easily spiral. The US and Israel might think they've won a battle, but they've opened a Pandora's box. Hope our MEA is activating evacuation plans already.
