Lucknow, June 15

Following the commencement of commercial flight operations at Noida International Airport in Jewar on Monday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to felicitate farmers who contributed their land for the project upon their arrival in Lucknow on the inaugural flight.

In an X post, the Chief Minister highlighted the contribution of farmers, describing them as the "providers of grain" and stating that they are central to the nation's development journey.

"Farmers are the foundation of our nation's prosperity. Honouring the participation and contributions of farmers in the state's journey of development is the responsibility of all of us. Today, upon the arrival in Lucknow of the first flight carrying the farmer brothers and sisters who have dedicated their land for the construction of the Noida International Airport located in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Jewar, I will welcome and felicitate them, and also engage in dialogue with them. 'Felicitation of the Providers of Grain, Salutation to a Prosperous India'--with this very sentiment, we are committed to the progress of every farmer brother," CM Yogi said.

Noida International Airport's first commercial flight departed for Lucknow earlier today, marking the beginning of scheduled commercial flight operations from the newly inaugurated airport.

The flight carried a special delegation of farmers from the Jewar region who had contributed their land for the construction of the airport. The delegation is being led by Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh

Earlier in the day, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu interacted with farmers and their family members, highlighting their contribution to the development of the airport and the region's transformation into a major aviation hub.

Ram Mohan Naidu said, "The farmers who contributed land for this airport will travel on its inaugural flight to Lucknow, where a special interaction with the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been organised... This will serve as a hub for both domestic and international operations... Once completed, the Jewar Airport is set to become one of the largest airports in Asia..."

He further outlined the airport's expansion plans, saying, "We will start with a capacity of 1.2 crore passengers, and the terminal will be expanded once that capacity is saturated. Ultimately, by the fourth phase, we aim to increase the capacity to 7 crore passengers per year.

This is a good gesture but I hope these farmers got fair compensation. Land acquisition in UP has been controversial. Felicitation is nice, but financial security matters more for their future. Let's see if the government ensures they also get jobs or other benefits.

As an outsider following Indian infrastructure, this is impressive. Honoring the farmers who sacrificed for the airport shows a different side of development. Back home in the US, landowners usually just get a check and nobody knows their names. This is actually quite touching.

Well done Yogi ji! The Jewar airport will transform Western UP. Farmers are the backbone of our nation, and respecting them like this will inspire others too. Hope the government keeps its promises and develops the area with schools, hospitals for these families. 🇮🇳

Nice photo op, but I'm skeptical. In many countries, farmers who lose land for airports end up struggling. Are these farmers getting shares in the airport revenue? Priority hiring? Compensation that actually matches the land's future value? I hope India is doing better than the usual story.

This is the kind of development we need—inclusive and respectful. The farmers from Jewar sacrificed their ancestral land for this project. Giving them a flight ride and personal meeting with the CM is a classy move. Let's hope all states follow this model of honoring land donors.
