"the people have delivered this victory in appreciation of the 'pro-people' programmes - B.S. Yediyurappa"

Bengaluru, Jan 16

After the resounding victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies in the local body elections in Maharashtra, celebrations were held on Friday near the Karnataka BJP office in Bengaluru, with firecrackers burst and sweets distributed.

BJP Central Parliamentary Board member and former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis following the massive lead secured by the BJP and its allies in the local body elections in Maharashtra.

He said the people have delivered this victory in appreciation of the "pro-people" programmes implemented by the NDA government at the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and by the BJP-led government in Maharashtra.

He expressed his gratitude to the enlightened voters who supported the BJP, as well as to all the party workers and leaders who worked hard for the victory.

He also congratulated the victorious candidates in Maharashtra local body polls.

Speaking to the media, Bengaluru North district BJP President S. Harish said the BJP and its allies have registered a massive lead in Brihanmumbai municipal corporation (BMC), Mumbai's largest civic body.

He termed it a moment of great joy and took a swipe at the Congress, saying the latter used to claim they would win if elections were held using ballot papers, yet they have lost, including in their own state.

He remarked sarcastically that they would now once again allege EVM hacking.

He said it was extremely gratifying that the BJP would take charge of the BMC Mayor's post after 30 years.

He added that the BJP had also won in Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation and said this was due to the work being done by Prime Minister Modi.

BJP leader Harish said people everywhere are accepting that there is no alternative to the BJP.

He congratulated the people of Mumbai as well as the BJP leaders and Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

Bengaluru Central district BJP President, Saptagiri Gowda, said the BJP-led alliance has won the BMC, the richest municipal body in the country.

He said the people of Mumbai have shown who the real Shiv Sena and alleged that there had been a lot of deception carried out in the name of Shiv Sena.

He said the people have set aside all the allegations made by the Thackeray family against the BJP and have decided who the real Shiv Sena is and who should lead the nation forward.

He described the BMC results as a true victory of democracy and congratulated BJP workers and leaders.

Karnataka BJP Spokesperson Prakash Shesharaghavachar said Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray had carried out a hate-filled campaigning, but the enlightened voters of Mumbai have delivered a fitting rebuke to both and handed the BJP an unprecedented victory.

State BJP spokesperson H.N. Chandrashekhar, Bengaluru North district general secretary Bhanu Rangaswamy, senior leader Gangahanumaiah, party leaders, former Municipal Councillors and party workers were also present.

Interesting to see celebrations in Bengaluru for a Mumbai election. Shows the national character of the BJP. The focus on development seems to be cutting across states.

While the victory is significant, I hope the focus now shifts entirely to civic issues in Mumbai. BMC has huge challenges - infrastructure, flooding, waste management. The real test begins now.

Winning BMC after 30 years is no small feat! This is a direct result of the work on the ground. The opposition's narrative of EVM hacking every time they lose is getting old. Voters are smarter now.

As a Mumbaikar living in Bangalore, I'm happy to see this. The city needs stable leadership. The split in Shiv Sena confused many. Hope BJP delivers better roads and cleaner neighbourhoods. 🤞

The political commentary about "real Shiv Sena" is fascinating. It seems less about ideology now and more about administrative credibility. The voter's priority has clearly shifted.

Sweets and celebrations are fine, but I respectfully disagree with the tone that there's "no alternative" to one party. A healthy democracy needs strong opposition. Hope they introspect and rebuild.
