Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated 6 renovated post offices in MP and announced a new ₹111-crore National Postal Training Centre in Shivpuri.

"The proposed centre would strengthen the postal training ecosystem and position Shivpuri... as a premier postal training institution. - Jyotiraditya Scindia"

Shivpuri, January 11

Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region and Member of Parliament from Guna, Jyotiraditya M Scindia, during his official visit to Madhya Pradesh from 8th-11th January 2026, inaugurated 6 renovated Post Offices across the State and made several key announcements reflecting the Government's continued focus on strengthening postal infrastructure, capacity building and time-bound public service delivery.

The Minister inaugurated Sub-Post Offices at Kolaras, Jagatpura, Badarwas, Pichhore, and Katthamil, as well as the City Post Office. These newly inaugurated and upgraded post offices are equipped with enhanced customer amenities and provide seamless access to a wide range of Department of Posts services, including mail and parcel delivery, savings and insurance schemes, digital services, and financial inclusion initiatives.

The new infrastructure is expected to significantly enhance operational efficiency and service outreach, especially in semi-urban and rural areas.

Addressing the gathering, He stated that the occasion marked not only the inauguration of modernised postal facilities but also a major policy announcement. He informed that the Department of Posts currently operates six Postal Training Centres--Saharanpur, Vadodara, Mysuru, Guwahati, Madurai, and Darbhanga--which together train around 2,000 personnel annually and have so far trained nearly 18,000 officials and employees.

The Union Minister announced the establishment of a seventh National Postal Training Centre at Shivpuri at an estimated cost of ₹111 crore.

He stated that the proposed centre would strengthen the postal training ecosystem and position Shivpuri alongside Saharanpur, Vadodara, Mysuru, Guwahati, Madurai, and Darbhanga as a premier postal training institution.

Referring to the timely completion of the Gwalior airport project, the Minister set a target to complete the Shivpuri training centre within 8 to 12 months and directed senior postal officials to expedite execution. He further announced that the foundation stone would be laid during his next visit, with the inauguration to follow within the stipulated timeframe.

During a programme held in Pichhore, Shivpuri district, the Union Minister also announced the names of two upcoming India Post services--Speed Post 24 and Speed Post 48. These services will ensure guaranteed delivery within 24 and 48 hours, respectively, establishing new benchmarks for fast, reliable, and time-bound delivery across the postal network.

On the same occasion, Scindia inaugurated the renovated Pichhore Sub-Post Office, upgraded at a cost of ₹2 lakh, and laid the foundation stone and performed the Bhoomi Pujan for a new Sub-Post Office building to be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹1.11 crore.

The Department of Posts remains committed to modernising its infrastructure, leveraging technology to strengthen last-mile connectivity, promote inclusive growth, and support the Government's vision of responsive, accessible, and efficient public service delivery.

A ₹111 crore training centre in Shivpuri is a massive investment. While capacity building is good, I hope the focus is on quality training and not just infrastructure. The postal service needs to compete with private couriers, and Speed Post 24/48 is a move in the right direction. Hope the 8-12 month deadline is realistic.

As someone from MP, it's heartening to see development projects coming to our region. The Gwalior airport upgrade was done well, so I have faith this training centre will be completed on time. It will also bring employment opportunities to Shivpuri. Good announcement overall.

Speed Post 24 and 48? That's ambitious! If India Post can actually guarantee these timelines, it will be a game-changer for small businesses in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. The cost-effectiveness compared to private players will be key. Waiting to see this implemented on the ground.

While I appreciate the modernization, I hope the focus isn't only on new buildings. The real test is consistent service quality and staff behavior. Renovating a post office for ₹2 lakh is one thing, but ensuring the staff there are helpful and tech-savvy is another. The training centre must address this soft skills gap.

Interesting to see such a significant push to modernize a traditional service. The postal network's reach in rural India is unparalleled. Leveraging that for financial inclusion and digital services is a smart strategy. The training centre investment seems high, but if it improves last-mile delivery reliability, it's worth it.
