Ajit Pawar, 66, died this morning after the aircraft carrying him crashed while attempting to land at Baramati airport in Pune district. This is so tragic. My prayers are with Sunetra Pawar and their sons. To lose a husband and father so suddenly is unimaginable. The state holiday is a fitting tribute to a leader who served for so long.

The fact that leaders from Goa and Bihar are expressing grief shows his national stature. A six-term deputy CM is a remarkable record. A huge loss for Indian politics.
