Nepal floods: Efforts underway to contact 67 Maha citizens

Following the massive floods that struck the Nepal-Tibet region on August 26, 2026, tourists and citizens from various districts of Maharashtra have been stranded. The state disaster management department said intensive efforts are underway to trace and contact 67 of these individuals.
According to information received up to August 30, 2026, the total number of affected citizens from Maharashtra is 405. Of these, 262 citizens have been brought back home, while another 76 individuals are in contact and safe.
To trace those who could not be contacted, a special team from the Central Government has arrived in Kathmandu. The Indian Ambassador to Nepal met the team and issued necessary instructions. Along with contacting the affected citizens to verify their safety, efforts are ongoing to repatriate them to India.
Following instructions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the government is providing various forms of assistance while resolving travel-related difficulties, the government release said.
Authorities have not yet established direct contact with a group of 60 citizens who travelled through Richa Tours Pvt Ltd. Additionally, seven other citizens registered via a link have also not been reached. Administrative efforts to track their locations and gather information are ongoing.
The Chief Minister's Office and the administration are continuously monitoring the situation to ensure the safe arrival of affected tourists and citizens in the state. Another 69 citizens from Maharashtra are expected to complete their onward journey and reach Mumbai.
On the evening of August 29, 37 citizens safely arrived in Mumbai from Saga near Mansarovar in Tibet. Furthermore, 105 citizens have returned to Nagpur.
In this difficult situation created by the flood conditions, the State Disaster Management Department is coordinating with relevant agencies to take necessary action for the safe return of stranded citizens, the release said.
