IndiGo to shift flight operations to newly built terminal in Guwahati

Guwahati, July 17

IndiGo will shift all its arrival and departure operations at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati to the newly built Terminal 2 from July 20, officials said on Friday.

According to the airport authorities, the transition will come into effect from 12.01 a.m. on July 20, after which every IndiGo flight operating from Guwahati will use the new integrated terminal for check-in, security clearance, boarding and arrivals.

Officials added that the move is a major step in the phased operationalisation of the new terminal, which has been developed to enhance passenger convenience, improve operational efficiency and cater to the rapidly growing air traffic in the Northeast.

The new terminal has been designed with a bamboo-inspired architectural theme that showcases Assam's cultural heritage while incorporating modern infrastructure and sustainable building practices.

It has also received international recognition for its design, reflecting the airport's efforts to create a world-class aviation facility in the region.

Airport authorities said passengers travelling on IndiGo flights from July 20 onwards should report directly to Terminal 2 instead of the existing terminal.

To ensure a hassle-free transition, the airport has deployed additional staff, installed prominent wayfinding signage and strengthened passenger information systems across the premises.

Officials said that these measures are aimed at helping travellers navigate the new terminal with ease during the initial days of the operational shift.

They also advised passengers to verify their flight details with the airline before leaving for the airport and to arrive well in advance of the scheduled departure time to complete check-in and security procedures without inconvenience.

The transition of IndiGo, the country's largest domestic carrier, is expected to significantly increase passenger movement through the new terminal and further strengthen Guwahati Airport's role as the primary aviation gateway to the Northeastern states.

Airport authorities said the migration reflects LGBIA's continued focus on expanding capacity, improving connectivity and delivering an enhanced travel experience for passengers.

Great infrastructure push for the region. As someone from Assam, I appreciate that they're keeping the cultural theme alive with the bamboo architecture. But c'mon, only one airline shifting for now? Rest should follow quickly or passengers will get confused between terminals!

"International recognition for design" - is this the terminal that won the awards recently? Makes me proud as an Indian. But please, make sure passenger information systems work properly from day one. We all know how transitional chaos can ruin travel plans!

As a foreigner who visits Assam for work, this is exciting! Guwahati airport badly needed expansion. Hope the transition is smooth and the new terminal has better lounges and food options than the old one. Also, please improve the approach road - it's always congested.

Nice to see IndiGo moving first - they handle the most Northeastern traffic anyway. The bamboo theme is a nice touch reflecting Assamese culture. But I'm skeptical about the timeline - July 20 is just 3 days away from this announcement. Hope they've tested everything thoroughly!

Finally our region getting world-class infrastructure! Remembering the old chaotic terminal days with long queues. Hope this brings better flight connectivity to smaller northeastern cities too. But please fix the cab situation outside - too many touts!
