Hailee Steinfeld, Rashida Jones to star in animated film 'Hexed'
Washington DC, April 17
Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones will star in Disney's next animated movie titled 'Hexed,' the company revealed during its CinemaCon presentation to theatre owners on Thursday, reported Variety.
According to the outlet, 'Hexed' is a new original film that "follows a teenage oddball and her Type A mom, who discovers her weirdness is actually hidden magic, transporting them to a world where magic can run free."
It will be released in theatres on November 25, reported Variety.
Steinfeld was nominated at the 83rd Academy Awards for her performance in the film True Grit. Her credits include 'Sinners,' 'Pitch Perfect,' 'The Edge of Seventeen' and 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.'
As for Rashida Jones, the actress was part of the cast of 'Parks and Recreation' and starred in 'I Love You, Man,' 'The Muppets,' 'On the Rocks,' and 'Celeste and Jesse Forever.'
Josie Trinidad, the head of story on 'Ralph Breaks the Internet' and 'Zootopia,' will make her film directorial debut alongside Jason Hand, the 'Moana 2' co-director and head of story on 'Encanto.'
Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones will serve as producers of the film.
Disney is coming off the record-breaking success of last year's 'Zootopia 2,' which became the highest-grossing animated film of all time with 1.7 billion USD at the global box office by beating 'Inside Out 2.' It also surpassed 'Frozen 2' as Disney's biggest animated film ever and was 2025's highest-grossing movie.
During its presentation in Las Vegas to exhibitors, Disney debuted footage from its live-action 'Moana,' 'The Devil Wears Prada 2,' 'Toy Story 5' and 'Avengers: Doomsday.'

Disney is on a roll after Zootopia 2! The team behind Moana 2 and Encanto is involved, so the music and story should be top-notch. Hope it releases in India on the same date.
I love Hailee Steinfeld's voice work in Spider-Verse. She's a great choice. But I hope the story offers something new and isn't just another "chosen one discovers powers" template. Disney needs fresh narratives.
The description "teenage oddball" resonates. It's nice to see stories that celebrate being different. As an expat in Bangalore, I find Indian animation like 'Mumbai Diaries' has its own charm, but Disney's global appeal is undeniable.
November release means it will clash with Diwali season movies here. Tough competition from Bollywood and regional films! But a good family film can still do well. The producer Roy Conli has a solid track record.
A Type A mom discovering her daughter's magic? That's basically my life trying to manage my creative, messy kid while keeping a strict schedule! 🤣 Can't wait to see this dynamic on screen.
