A World Athletics Gold Label Race, the event continues to attract some of the finest distance runners from around the world while also providing Indian athletes the opportunity to test themselves against elite international competition on home soilas per a press release.

Gulveer Singh heads into the race in red-hot form, having finished third at the New York City Half Marathon earlier this month, where he clocked 59:42, which is the best timing for any Indian half-marathon runner.

The national record holder in both the 10,000m (27:00.22) and 5000m (12:59.77), Gulveer enjoyed a standout 2025 season, winning both events at the Asian Athletics Championships. He also set an event record of 1:12:06 at the World 25K Kolkata 2025.

Speaking about the quality of the field, Singh said, "The TCS World 10K Bengaluru attracts some of the best international athletes every year. Competing against such a strong field motivates Indian runners to push themselves harder, and it can also inspire many young athletes in the country to take up running."

"Events like this are very important for the ecosystem, especially in a year where we are focusing on the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games," he further added.

The prize money is impressive, but I hope more of this investment trickles down to developing infrastructure and coaches at the grassroots level. We have so much raw talent in small towns that needs proper support.

As an expat living in Bengaluru, it's amazing to see the city host a World Athletics Gold Label event. The international field looks very strong. Kibet and Langat are beasts. Will be a great test for Singh. Best of luck to all!

His timing in the half marathon is incredible! 59:42! That's sub-1 hour. He's right, competing against the best Africans on home soil will only make our athletes better. Hope the weather in April is kind to the runners.

Respectfully, while it's great to celebrate Gulveer's success, I feel the article and focus is too much on one athlete. What about the women's elite field? I hope they get equal coverage and prize money. A balanced ecosystem is crucial.
