"strengthen industrial linkages between Indian and Taiwanese companies - Officials"

Gandhinagar, April 10

Gujarat has moved to deepen its collaboration with Taiwan in advanced manufacturing sectors, with the signing of a memorandum of understanding to set up an India-Taiwan Industrial Park in the Sanand-Dholera region, officials said on Friday.

The agreement, signed in Gandhinagar, brings together the state government's Department of Science and Technology and Allegiance International Company Limited to develop the proposed industrial park, which will focus on building a manufacturing ecosystem spanning semiconductors, electronics, electric vehicles and robotics.

The signing ceremony was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the state's Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia.

The MoU was executed by Simon Lee, Vice President of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in India and Chairman of Allegiance Group, and P. Bharathi, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology.

Officials said the project is intended to strengthen industrial linkages between Indian and Taiwanese companies by creating a dedicated hub for high-technology manufacturing and supply chain integration.

The park is expected to be developed in the Sanand-Dholera corridor, which has emerged as a key industrial zone in the state.

The initiative is projected to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) of more than Rs 1,000 crore, with participation largely expected from Taiwanese firms in the semiconductor and electronics sectors.

Authorities also estimate that the project could generate around 12,000 direct jobs over the next five years.

State government officials said the proposed development is aligned with the objectives of the India Semiconductor Mission and Gujarat's broader strategy to position itself as a hub for high-technology industries.

They noted that semiconductor and related projects worth more than Rs 1.24 lakh crore are already under various stages of implementation in the state.

The industrial park is expected to support the creation of an integrated ecosystem covering semiconductor manufacturing, electronics production, electric mobility, robotics and allied supply chains, further strengthening industrial cooperation between India and Taiwan in the emerging technology sector.

As someone working in the tech sector, this is exactly the kind of high-value FDI we need. Semiconductors and EVs are the future. Hoping this creates quality jobs and not just numbers on paper.

Good step, but we must ensure the technology transfer is real and we build our own expertise. We cannot remain just an assembly line. The focus should be on R&D and creating Indian IP.

More than 1,000 crore investment and partnerships with a leader like Taiwan in semiconductors? This is a game-changer for 'Make in India'. Hope other states learn from Gujarat's proactive approach.

While the economic benefits are clear, I hope the environmental impact in the Dholera region is studied properly. We need development, but not at the cost of our ecology. Sustainable growth is key.

Building industrial linkages with Taiwan makes strategic sense. They are world leaders in this sector. This will help reduce our dependency on imports and strengthen our electronics manufacturing base. Good move!
