Gujarat CM congratulates Himanta Biswa Sarma, backs BJP's 'double-engine' push in Assam
Gandhinagar/Guwahati, May 12 Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday congratulated Himanta Biswa Sarma after he was sworn in for a second consecutive term as Chief Minister of Assam, saying the BJP's "double-engine government" would further accelerate the state's development journey.
In his message on social media X, Patel said: "Heartiest congratulations and best wishes for a successful tenure to Himanta Biswa Sarma on taking oath again as the Chief Minister of Assam and to all the public representatives taking oath as ministers."
He added: "Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his capable leadership, Assam will set new benchmarks in development, good governance and public welfare. The BJP's double-engine government will further accelerate Assam's journey of progress."
Patel also extended his wishes for the prosperity of the people of Assam and the state's continued development.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi also congratulated Sarma and said his leadership had contributed to a "new era of growth and confidence" in Assam.
"Warm congratulations to Himanta Biswa ji on taking oath once again as the Chief Minister of Assam," Sanghavi said in a statement.
"From accelerating infrastructure to empowering every section of society, your visionary leadership continues to script a new era of growth and confidence for Assam," he added.
Sanghavi further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Assam was steadily emerging as "a shining symbol of progress, peace and limitless opportunities".
Sarma was sworn in on Tuesday after the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance retained power in Assam for a third consecutive term in the 126-member assembly.
The NDA secured 102 seats, including 82 won by the BJP, while allies Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People's Front won 10 seats each.
The swearing-in ceremony in Guwahati was attended by Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other NDA leaders.
Along with Sarma, several ministers also took oath as part of the new council of ministers, including Ajanta Neog, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora and Charan Boro.
Sarma, who first became Assam chief minister in 2021, returned to office after being unanimously elected leader of the BJP-led NDA legislature party following the alliance's electoral victory.

Congrats to Himanta ji 🎉 While I appreciate the focus on development, I hope the government also addresses issues like flooding in Assam and the concerns of tea garden workers. Development should be inclusive, not just about infrastructure. But good to see stability in the state.
I've been following Assam's progress from the UK. The NDA's landslide win shows people's trust in Modi and Sarma's vision. That 82 seats out of 126 is impressive. Hope the 'double-engine' delivers on promises for the common citizen. Well done!
Development is good, but I'm slightly skeptical about 'double-engine' rhetoric. In states where both centre and state are same party, we still see local issues getting ignored. Hope Sarma proves me wrong. His work on insurgency and CAA implementation has been decent so far.
Congratulations to the entire Assam cabinet! As a student from Gujarat, I've seen how BJP's 'double-engine' has helped our state. Assam deserves similar progress, especially in job creation and tourism. But don't ignore the Assamese language and culture in the name of development. Balance is key ✨
Himanta ji has been a dynamic leader, no doubt. But let's not forget the opposition's role in democracy. With 24 seats for Congress and others, they should be heard too. 'Double-engine' sounds nice, but check and balance is important. Still, best wishes for Assam's growth! 🙏
