BRO constructs vital bridge in remote Arunachal to boost strategic links in forward areas

Itanagar, July 3

The Border Roads Organisation has completed the construction of a 180-foot Bailey Bridge in the remote Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh, significantly enhancing strategic connectivity to forward border areas of the Northeastern state.

Defence spokesman Lt Col Mahendra Rawat said on Friday that the bridge was constructed under Project Arunank, a key BRO initiative aimed at strengthening strategic infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh. He said the 180-foot Bailey Bridge was launched by personnel of the 85 Road Construction Company (RCC) and the 756 Border Roads Task Force under extremely challenging conditions, including relentless rainfall, flash-flood threats and treacherous mountainous terrain.

Officials said BRO personnel worked round the clock to overcome severe logistical and environmental challenges during the execution of the project, ensuring its timely completion despite adverse weather and difficult terrain.

Lt Col Rawat said the newly completed Triple-Double Reinforced (TDR) Bailey Bridge would significantly enhance the movement of security forces, military equipment and essential supplies in the strategically important sector.

Besides its strategic value, the bridge would also serve as a vital lifeline for residents of remote border villages by improving access to essential services and transportation.

Project Arunank has been playing a pivotal role in the development of strategic road and bridge infrastructure across Arunachal Pradesh and continues to strengthen connectivity in remote areas, including the strategically important Hapoli-Sarli-Huri road network.

The defence spokesman said the bridge is expected to ensure all-weather connectivity, link isolated villages with the mainstream economy, facilitate socio-economic development and further reinforce India's defence preparedness in one of the state's most challenging operational environments.

According to an official statement, the successful completion of the bridge reflects the BRO's continued commitment to strengthening national security infrastructure while advancing self-reliance in strategic connectivity under the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat initiative.

BRO's Project Arunank has been instrumental in creating critical infrastructure along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh, including the development of key road networks such as the Hapoli-Sarli-Huri corridor, thereby improving both strategic mobility and civilian connectivity in the border state.

Bailey bridges are old tech but effective for remote areas. Hope BRO maintains them properly - many such bridges in NE get worn out quickly. Strategic value is undeniable though, especially with China building infrastructure on their side.

Aatma Nirbhar Bharat in action! But let's not forget the real heroes - the BRO workers who risk their lives in rain, landslides, and whatnot. They deserve better pay and recognition. The bridge will surely boost tourism too if roads improve.

Impressive engineering feat given the monsoon conditions. India's infrastructure push in the Northeast is crucial for national security. The Hapoli-Sarli-Huri corridor will be a game-changer for both military logistics and civilian mobility.

Good development but why only now? China has been building roads and bridges on their side for decades. We need much faster pace of infrastructure in border areas. Still, credit to BRO for completing despite challenges. 👏

As someone from Arunachal, I can tell you how much these bridges matter. During monsoons, villages get cut off for weeks. This bridge isn't just for military - it means children can go to school, patients can reach hospitals. Thank you BRO! ❤️
