New Delhi, July 5

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Sunday that the government has launched 'Mission Kayakalp' with the objective of transforming government schools into safe, clean, modern and inspiring learning spaces for children.

She said that under this special initiative, extensive infrastructure improvement works are being carried out in selected government schools across different districts of the capital to strengthen school infrastructure and provide students with better facilities.

The Chief Minister said that 'Mission Kayakalp' is being implemented with the support of district administrations, the Education Department, organisations contributing through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), social organisations, market associations and local communities.

She said that along with government resources, public participation is helping bring about rapid and positive changes in schools, making the initiative an effective example of community participation in education.

The Chief Minister said that the Mission is not limited to painting alone but is a comprehensive campaign to transform government schools.

Under the initiative, priority is being given to repairing school buildings, painting and whitewashing walls, renovating dilapidated toilets, installing RO plants and water coolers to provide clean drinking water, modernising science laboratories, developing facilities for children with special needs, beautifying school campuses, increasing greenery, and creating a safe and positive environment for students, she said.

The Chief Minister said that the work being carried out under 'Mission Kayakalp' has already transformed several government schools.

Places that once had dilapidated buildings, damaged walls, old toilets and limited facilities are now emerging as clean, freshly painted campuses equipped with better drinking water facilities and providing a safer and more inspiring learning environment for students, she said.

CM Gupta said that the Delhi government will continue to work with the same commitment to strengthen infrastructure in government schools, provide better facilities to students and take the education system to new heights, so that every government school in the capital becomes a model of an excellent learning environment.

Good initiative but I wonder about the sustainability. CSR funds and community participation are great, but what about regular maintenance? Schools need ongoing support, not just a one-time makeover. Also, science labs and special needs facilities - that's the kind of forward thinking we need. Let's see the results.

As someone who studied in a Delhi government school back in the 90s, this brings back memories. Conditions were terrible then. If 'Mission Kayakalp' can really transform these schools into modern learning spaces with proper labs and greenery, it could change lives. Education is the real equalizer.

I appreciate the effort but 'Mission Kayakalp' sounds like another rebranding exercise. Instead of launching new campaigns every few years, why not fix the system permanently? My children go to a private school because government schools lack basics. Make them truly competitive and we'll see real progress.

This is promising! Community participation is key - when local businesses and residents get involved, schools become part of the neighborhood's pride. The focus on greenery and safe spaces is especially important for young children. Hope they also address teacher training and curriculum quality alongside infrastructure.

Main thing is execution on ground. I've seen many 'missions' come and go with big announcements but little change in actual schools. Having said that, clean toilets and RO plants would be a game changer for thousands of kids. Let's hope district administrations take this seriously beyond photo ops. 🤞
