Govt holds industry interaction on PM-SETU scheme for Rajasthan cluster to boost skilling
New Delhi, June 3
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship on Wednesday organised an industry interaction on the PM-SETU for the Rajasthan cluster to strengthen industry participation in skilling initiatives.
The programme comprised a detailed presentation on the PM-SETU Scheme, followed by industry deliberations and consultations to identify actionable pathways for its effective implementation in the Bhiwadi industrial Hub of Rajasthan, the statement noted.
The cluster is among North India's fastest-growing manufacturing regions, with strong presence in automotive, engineering, electronics, logistics and emerging green industries.
The interaction brought together key industry stakeholders, policymakers, and leaders from the skill development ecosystem to strengthen industry participation in skilling initiatives, align training with workforce requirements, and create sustainable employment opportunities for local youth.
Bhupendra Yadav, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change underscored the importance of integrating skill development with sustainable industrial growth, the statement from Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said.
Yadav highlighted opportunities emerging in the different sectors and emphasised that skill development in these sectors will play a critical role in job creation.
Jayant Chaudhary, MoS Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said that PM-SETU aims to reduce recruitment and training costs for industry while improving employment outcomes for youth, adding that the program will directly benefit CSR beneficiaries and promote inclusive growth.
The minister mentioned that Sector Skill Councils can act as Anchor industry partners (AIPs), and that industries could collaborate with universities as knowledge partners to strengthen training frameworks.
Chaudhary stressed the need to transform Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into centres of experiential learning, equipped with modern infrastructure, including sports facilities. Such centres will function as holistic 'finishing schools' for youth, ensuring both quality education and strong placement outcomes.

Good initiative but I worry about the implementation. We already have many skill development programs that never reach the ground level. The idea of ITIs becoming 'finishing schools' sounds nice but requires serious investment in infrastructure and trainers. Let's see if Rajasthan's cluster actually benefits from this.
As someone from Rajasthan, I can say Bhiwadi really needs this. The industrial area has grown so much but local youth often lack the specific skills that companies want. If they align training with what automobile and electronics companies actually need, it could be a game-changer. Inclusion of sports facilities in ITIs is a nice touch too—holistic development matters!
This is exactly what we need—industry and government working together. The idea of Sector Skill Councils acting as anchor partners is smart because they understand what skills are actually in demand. But I hope they also focus on women's participation in these training programs. Women in Rajasthan need more opportunities in manufacturing sectors. 🙏
Reducing recruitment and training costs for industry is great, but I hope the focus remains on creating quality employment for youth and not just cheap labour for companies. The 'finishing school' concept for ITIs sounds promising if they provide practical, hands-on training. Let's hope this generates real jobs in Rajasthan's green industries too—that's the future! 🌱
I'm cautiously optimistic. The intent is good but the real test will be whether this reaches the small towns and villages around Bhiwadi, not just the industrial hub itself. Also, they must ensure transparency in how CSR funds are used for this. Our
