Fire broke out at School of Planning and Architecture campus, not Education Ministry office: Govt clarifies

New Delhi, June 1

The Ministry of Education on Monday clarified that the fire incident occurred at the School of Planning and Architecture in ITO, New Delhi, and not at the ministry's office.

The ministry mentioned that its office is located at Kartavya Bhavan-2, Dr Rajendra Prasad Road, New Delhi, distinct from the premises of the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), located at 4- Block B, Indraprastha Estate, Vikas Marg (ITO), New Delhi -- 110002.

"This clarification is being issued to avoid the spread of any misinformation regarding the fire incident," the ministry said.

The Education Ministry further stated that the fire was minor and was promptly brought under control. No loss of life or property was reported, it stated.

A massive fire broke out on the second floor of the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) campus in Delhi's ITO area. According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), eight fire tenders were dispatched to the scene upon receiving the information.

The fire originated on the second floor of the 'School of Planning and Architecture' building located at ITO. As soon as the fire started, everyone inside the building was evacuated. Subsequently, the Fire Department was informed on an urgent basis.

The Delhi Fire Service received a call about the blaze at around 9.37 a.m. The fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the spot, and firefighting operations are currently underway, officials said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, they added.

Investigations are underway, and further details are awaited.

In a separate incident, a massive fire broke out in a house in Indira Vihar, located in the Mukherjee Nagar area of North-West Delhi, on Sunday.

Approximately half a dozen fire tenders arrived at the scene and brought the blaze under control. No casualties were reported, the rescue officers said.

According to the officials, the Fire Department received the alert regarding the fire last night, at around 10:30 p.m.

The fire initially ignited amidst the household belongings; within moments, the flames engulfed the entire three-story building, officials added.

The police from the Mukherjee Nagar station are actively investigating to determine the exact cause of the fire.

Eight fire tenders for a 'minor fire'? That's a lot for something that was controlled quickly. But better safe than sorry, I guess. Hope the investigation finds out the cause—these heritage buildings need regular safety audits. Arre yaar, fire safety in Indian institutions is a joke at times.

School of Planning and Architecture is a premier institute. I hope the fire didn't damage any important documents or student work. The early morning evacuation shows good preparedness, but the government should ensure these buildings have proper fire suppression systems, especially in Delhi summers. 🔥

Impressed with the quick response by Delhi Fire Services. 8 tenders in what seems like a small fire—shows their vigilance. The separate fire in Mukherjee Nagar overnight is concerning though. Two fires in 24 hours in Delhi? Need to check if there's some pattern, electrical faults are common in these old buildings.

Why is the Education Ministry so quick to clarify when the building in question is NOT theirs? Shows how sensitive they are about their image. But the real issue is: why are fires becoming so common in Delhi? SPA, then that house in Mukherjee Nagar... the summer heat and faulty wiring is a deadly combo. 😰

Good that nobody was hurt. But I worry about the Mukherjee Nagar fire—a three-storey house engulfed in flames so quickly? Those narrow lanes make firefighter access difficult. The authorities need to enforce fire safety norms in residential areas too. Wahan bhi toh students rehte hain! 🏠
