Esha Deol expresses excitement as she ventures into horror-comedy space with 'GHUNGHAT'
Mumbai Jun, e 8
Bollywood Esha Deol is set to explore the horror-comedy genre for the first time with the upcoming film 'GHUNGHAT'.
Speaking about the film, Esha Deol said, "GHUNGHAT is a completely new genre for me to explore. I have always enjoyed being part of comedies and have done horror earlier, but this is a mix of both. What I loved about the script is that along with the fun and spooky elements, it also carries a meaningful message. It's emotional, entertaining, and something very different for me as an actor."
While Esha Deol has previously appeared in horror films such as Darling and Kucch To Hai, GHUNGHAT marks her first project that combines horror and comedy within a single narrative.
Talking about the movie, it is set in the mysterious village of Jangipura, GHUNGHAT revolves around the haunting spirit of Bhuri, whose tragic past transforms into a terrifying curse for the villagers.
The story is expected to combine supernatural suspense with humour, romance, fantasy and emotional drama.
Directed by Rajiv S Ruia and produced by Bangalore-based producer Devesh Kumar under the banner of Native Cinemas, the film promises a blend of spooky thrills, comedy, emotions, and social messaging.
Meanwhile, talking about Esha Deol, the actress is the daughter of Bollywood legends Dharmendra and Hema Malini.
The actress made her Bollywood debut with 'Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe' in 2002. Over the years, she appeared in films such as 'Na Tum Jaano Na Hum', 'Dhoom', 'Yuva', 'Dus', 'No Entry', 'Cash' and 'Tell Me O Kkhuda'.
Her special dance number in the movie Dhoom went onto become a chartbuster.
Esha, after a few years in mainstream Bollywood, gradually stepped away from the spotlight to focus on her personal life. She married businessman Bharat Takhtani in 2012, and the couple welcomed two daughters. In 2024, Esha and Bharat announced their separation after over a decade of marriage a few years ago.

Finally some fresh content! Bollywood has been too repetitive lately. Esha was great in Dhoom and No Entry, so her comedy timing is solid. Let's see how she handles horror mixed with comedy. Also, the name 'GHUNGHAT' is intriguing - reminds me of old-school village horror films. 👻
I'm not sure about this one. Horror-comedies in Bollywood often end up being too silly or too scary without finding the right balance. But if Esha is genuinely excited about the script, maybe there's something special here. The Bangalore-based production is also a nice change from the usual Mumbai-centric films.
Esha Deol deserves more recognition - she was underrated in her prime. The idea of a horror-comedy with a village setting and a haunting spirit called Bhuri sounds like a return to classic Indian horror storytelling. I hope the comedy doesn't overshadow the emotional depth she mentioned. Fingers crossed! 🙏
I'll watch it for the nostalgia factor alone! Esha's dance in Dhoom is iconic. But horror-comedy is a risky genre - it needs excellent writing to work. The social messaging aspect worries me a bit; sometimes filmmakers try too hard and it feels preachy. Hopefully Rajiv S Ruia strikes the right chord with this one.
Waah! Esha Deol in a horror-comedy set in a village like Jangipura - that sounds like a perfect Diwali release! The combination of supernatural suspense, romance, and fantasy reminds me of the old 'Ramsay brothers' style but with a modern twist. Can't wait to see her back on screen!
