EC revises Telangana SIR schedule; draft electoral rolls on Aug 10, final publication on Oct 12

Hyderabad, July 15

The Election Commission of India has revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Telangana, extending the timeline for key revision activities, including Booth Level Officer visits, publication of the draft electoral roll, and the final publication of rolls.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana, the Commission said the revised schedule was issued following a request from the state election machinery.

As per the revised timetable, house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will continue from June 25 to August 3, while the rationalisation and re-arrangement of polling stations will be completed on August 3.

The draft electoral roll will be published on August 10, and claims and objections can be filed from August 10 to September 9.

The period for issuing notices and disposal of claims and objections has been scheduled from August 10 to October 8.

The final electoral roll will be published on October 12.

The Commission also directed that all officials concerned be informed of the revised schedule and that wide publicity be given through all available media. It further said political parties should also be informed of the modified schedule in writing.

The communication was issued by Sandeep Kumar, Under Secretary, Election Commission of India.

Earlier, the Election Commission had scheduled Booth Level Officer (BLO) visits in Telangana from June 25 to July 24, with rationalisation of polling stations to be completed by July 24. The draft electoral roll was to be published on July 31, followed by the period for filing claims and objections from July 31 to August 30.

The notice phase and disposal of claims and objections were scheduled to continue till September 28, while the final electoral roll was to be published on October 1.

Honestly, this revision is necessary—especially in Telangana where new voters come of age every year. But I feel the final publication date is still too close to the election season. Why not finish it earlier?

As someone who works with voter awareness, this extended window is a boon. Many people in my village don't even know about claims and objections. Hope EC uses local media like radio and loudspeakers to spread word. 🙏

Fair enough—EC is trying to be thorough. But I worry about political parties manipulating the rolls during this extended period. Need strict monitoring of fake entries or deletions.

Finally, some good news! I've been trying to get my brother's name added to the rolls for months. This SIR gives us a clear timeline. 😊 Hope the BLOs are polite and helpful during house visits.
