The coordinates put it near the Hindu Kush region. That area is seismically very active. Thankfully the magnitude is on the lower side. Our agencies should also monitor if there are any aftershocks that could affect our northern regions.
Reading this from Delhi. It's a reminder for all of us in the subcontinent to be prepared. Do we have adequate early warning systems in our earthquake-prone areas? Something our governments need to invest in more seriously.
Hope everyone is safe there. The article is very brief though – it would be helpful to know if there were any reports of damage or if it was even felt in nearby towns. "Further details are awaited" is the story of every breaking news piece.
The timing is 6:33 pm IST, so it was evening there too. People would have been at home. A quake, even a minor one, is always scary. Wishing strength to our Afghan brothers and sisters.
