Delhi: Fire breaks out in slums near Udyog Bhawan, no casualties reported
New Delhi, June 24
A major fire broke out in a slum cluster near the Udyog Bhawan area in the national capital on Wednesday morning, triggering a swift response from the Delhi Fire Services.
According to officials, around 20 firefighting units were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
Speaking to ANI, Fire Officer Sandeep Duggal said the affected area is located near Sena Bhawan and was being used as a temporary accommodation site for labourers.
"This is near Sena Bhawan, and this is a temporary construction for the labourers to stay. Their camp is set up here. Small LPG cylinders are being used here, and there are electric wires spread inside as well, so we cannot say the exact cause, but it could be one of the two reasons. Around 25 vehicles were involved in this... It took around three hours to extinguish the fire," he said.
More details awaited.

Fire services did a great job controlling it in 3 hours near such a high-security area. But why do laborers have to live in such conditions right next to government buildings? 😔
Quick response by the fire brigade saved lives here. The real question is why temporary labor camps with exposed wiring and LPG cylinders are allowed so close to vital government installations. This is a safety hazard for everyone.
Happy no one was hurt, but this is a wake-up call. Slums near Udyog Bhawan? That's like a fire next to the heart of Delhi's power. Need better urban planning and rehabilitation for these workers.
The fire officer's explanation about LPG cylinders and electric wires is concerning. These are basic fire hazards that could be prevented with simple inspections. Kudos to the 20 units that responded swiftly.
This happened right next to Sena Bhawan and Udyog Bhawan? Talk about irony! Poor labourers building India's infrastructure live in such dangerous conditions while we discuss development in AC rooms. 😤
Relief that no lives were lost, but these temporary settlements are a ticking time bomb. The fact that it took 3 hours to extinguish shows how dense and hazardous these areas are. Government must ensure safer housing.
