Newly appointed Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, on Saturday affirmed his focus on development, saying that the national capital should compete against capitals across the world.

Speaking to ANI, Taranjit Sandhu said, "Delhi is our capital, and we have to compete and compare with all the capitals of the world. We have to move ahead along with everyone. The focus is and should be on development."

Sandhu, earlier in the day, offered prayers at Gurudwara Moti Bagh Sahib in South Moti Bagh and Uttara Swami Malai Mandir in RK Puram.

Earlier on Friday, former Indian Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah after he was appointed the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi (LG).

In an X post, Sandhu said that he is committed to serving the people in the national capital with dedication and humility.

"I express my heartfelt gratitude to the most revered Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has provided me the opportunity to serve the people of Delhi as Lieutenant Governor. His leadership and visionary guidance have always been a source of inspiration. I am also grateful for the trust and guidance of the Home Minister Amit Shah. Good to see the focus on development. But competing with world capitals means investing in people. We need better schools, hospitals, and green spaces for citizens, not just shiny infrastructure for visitors. Hope his actions match his words.

His diplomatic experience should help. Delhi's traffic and pollution are our biggest challenges. If he can bring in some innovative solutions from other global cities, it would be a game-changer. Let's see some concrete plans soon.

As someone who has lived in London and now works in Delhi, the gap is huge but not unbridgeable. The vision is right, but execution is everything. The city needs integrated planning, not piecemeal projects. Good luck to Mr. Sandhu.

Respectfully, we hear this "world-class city" talk every time a new official comes. The last mile connectivity of Metro is still poor, and summers are unbearable due to water shortages. Please focus on these real issues of Delhites first. Actions speak louder than words.

It's a good sign that he visited both a Gurudwara and a Mandir on his first day. Shows he understands Delhi's diverse fabric. Development must be inclusive and benefit all communities equally. Jai Hind!
