Earlier in the day, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav visited the spot of the wreckage of the cruise boat, which capsized in the reservoir at Bargi Dam in Jabalpur

Speaking at the incident site, CM Mohan Yadav said that the rescue operations are still underway and assured strict punishment to those responsible for the tragedy.

"As soon as the administration received the information, SDRF, NDRF and our ministers and MLAs immediately went to the spot... All of them are continuously working for the rescue operation... So sad 😢 9 lives lost just like that. But I appreciate that CM Yadav and Defence Minister Rajnath Ji responded quickly. At least the rescue operation was prompt and they are compensating the families. Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia is good but nothing can bring back a family member. Also glad that PMO is giving additional funds from PMNRF.

Honestly, this is just heartbreaking. Another preventable tragedy. Why do we always react after something happens? The boat operators need to be held accountable. If it was overloaded or there was negligence, they should face criminal charges. No amount of condolence messages can fix that. RIP to the victims.

This is a sad reminder that safety protocols are often ignored in tourist hotspots in India. Bargi Dam is a beautiful place but if boat operators aren't regulated, these accidents will repeat. The Rs 51,000 for rescue workers is a nice gesture but they deserve proper training and equipment too.

Deeply saddened 😔. Having visited Bargi Dam myself, it's shocking to hear this. The reservoir is huge and the currents can be tricky. Hopefully the investigation will reveal what exactly went wrong. Good to see the prompt action by NDRF, SDRF and local administration. But we need better safety standards for all water-based tourism activities.

Condolences to the families. 🕊️ It's good that the government is taking responsibility - compensation from state and centre, and CM personally visiting the site. But I hope they also investigate why the boat capsized. Was it overcapacity?
